I am just looking for some advice as to which class(es) i could enter my horse into. His breeding is unknown(although obviously he has his passport), i am hoping to register him with CHAPS in a few months time(will this make much difference as to how many local shows i can enter him into?)Due to his age and my lack of experience in ridden showing classes i feel it would be best to start with in hand shows..

He is a 14.2 heavy weight traditional cob 5 years old, black with a white patch unber belly, huge white feathers and an extra thick mane and tail.(although at the moment he looks brown...all over!!!

Thanks

Do you have any pictures of him?
His conformation and muscle and stuff can change what classes you could consider

Registering with CHAPS won't affect what classes you do at local level, you only need to be a member to do their HOYS qualifying classes or qualify for their Championship show.

As you know, you'll be able to do coloured classes inhand. You could also do best conditioned, and some shows have a 'driving type' too, that might suit you. Occasionally there will be a 'cob type' inhand class which you'd be eligable for, but not a 'cob' class, which are generally for hogged show cobs. You can do the novelty classes too.

If you get the confidence to ride at shows, you can extend to doing things like best rider, riding club horse (if you both jump something small), equitation etc.

I've started to set up a website at www.showingtips.co.uk it's got some info that could be useful to you.
