Which side does your horses mane fall on?

American Paint, Welsh c x d and Welsh A all on the correct side. Titchy who is a Shetland, both sides. He has sweet itch tho so could be why as its all different lengths.

just reading the rest of the comments, I can't believe I've sent 13 years thinking Kelsey was odd! the first 5 years I had her she was the only horse on the yard who's mane fell to the right! now I realise that she is right and they were all wrong! doh!

Right, lets get training Sam's to go to the right then! hehe!!

Left, no matter how long I spend trying to train it, he gets plaited up for shows and I roll it to the right side so it doesn't bother me.

oh what a relief! I thought Lily my cob mare was the only horse in the world whose mane falls on to the near side. I missed the chance to train it when I first had her and it was really short. Oh well - as long as there is plenty to hang on to. Harry has long flowing locks on the correct side but very unequal lengths!

Xas my Curly is designed to have a mane of dreadlocks which falls to both sides. VERY cute. :-)

Two arabs and one 1/2 arab - all their manes are on the offside but the boy needed to have his plaited for a couple of days as it was originally on the nearside.

My mare's (cob) is mainly on the right side with a tiney bit at the top that goes forward.
My sister's cob it goes to the left - we spent years trying to train it to the right side and one shake of the head it goes back

*sighs* both sides - despite my best efforts to train it over including the boy spending weeks in plaits it just won't stay on the correct side.

So now it gets pulled over for pulling and plaiting, the rest of the time it goes where it likes:cool:

Welsh x ?New forest has a near side mane...wrong??? Well it's right for me since when I was very small and first put pen to paper and started drawing horses they always faced to the left and therefore always had near side manes...no-one told me they were wrong for years! I think the natural lie is right for the beastie, but glad to hear careful plaiting could sort him out if we wish to show him! The untrimmed Fjord we nearly bought had a glorious all-over-both-sides mane, :D

Aww Ashgrove, Hector has a cool hair do :)

My TB's falls to the offside and my Andy x TB's falls to the near side.

I don't worry about training thier manes to sit to a particular side as when they are plaitted up, you can't tell. I actually prefer plaitting my Andy X TB's mane as I find the plaits sit better on his neck.

Spanish horses mane traditionally should be on the left side. The reason for this is that when riding single handed one would use the left hand.
The right hand is used as the working hand i.e carrying the garrotcha pole you would not want the mane getting in the way.
If you are wondering what garotcha is.....

My Dutch warmblood has a great mane lies on the "correct" right side always looks neat. My Belgian horse ... He has a a permanent bed head! He's got wavy hair which lies on both sides and grows like a weed! Seriously objects to having it pulled, trimmed even brushed so I've given up, he is obviously quite happy looking like a mountain pony!

Both my boys have neatly tidied manes for being natives, on the correct side and then one toss of the head and they both go to the other, I've given up trying to make them stay the right way and just put hoodies on before we go to a show.

Off side - kwpn x tb

Well, most of it is anyway, apart from about 3" that sticks straight up after being rubbed away by a crap fitting neck cover with previous owner ;)
