which sites for selling a horse?

Looking to sell a 17.3 gelding .. probably as a man's hunter... so thought more national coverage, as we are not in brilliant hunting territory...

I sold one using Horsequest. I advertised him and the phone was ringing off the hook straight away. The second person that saw him bought him and she paid the full price because I had such a good level of interest and others booked in to try him.

I have recently been looking for a horse to buy and used H&H and horsequest as the main places to look and occasionally looked at horsemart but I found you had to search through a lot of horses there before finding a decent one. It's horses for courses - depends on the sort of horse you're selling. Also because there are so many more horses on horsemart, it can mean that you feel bored of looking at them all and start skimming over them - i did when horse-hunting.

hope that helps, good luck

I never found horsemart that great as a buyer - I found it confusing and as humph said, I got bored of going through hundreds of ads. Can't help you much with good sites, as i'm in Scotland, so my favourite horse sites are generally based there! H&H is pretty popular tho.

Hi Didi, just realised that you're selling a hunter. I would def go for horsequest. You're right that you can't search by height, age, etc on horsequest but I found, being a more visual site that it was quite user friendly - I found myself checking it every day to see what was new and obviously skirting over those that were too small.

Also because your horse is quite big, you don't want people not noticing him because he's out of the range they are looking for. For example, when searching on H&H I used to put in 16.3 to 17.2 and would therefore have missed your horse. On horsequest, if the photo is eye-catching you'll be more likely to compromise on height and look at it in more detail.

I mentioned earlier that I've recently sold a horse on horsequest and am currently in the process of buying a horse (he arrives on tues). Both of them were hunters and the one I bought was never advertised but was through a contact I made in response to a horsequest ad.

A few years ago I sold a horse (hunter/dressage/allrounder) through H&H and (don't know if I'm allowed to say this here) I was very disappointed with the response. Also i think that Horsemart really isn't tailored to hunters, which is why I found it frustrating to use when buying.

I hope you don't think I'm too opinionated, it's just I've spent the past few months searching high and low for a hunter so I feel very experienced in hunter-hunting on the web!

First of all, HHO is all about online community, people sell horses on it!

I sold my mare recently from http://www.horsesforsale.co.uk/

I had several phone calls within a couple of days of the ad appearing and sold to the first person to view. You can post up to five photographs and it was the photos that sold mine. A picture is worth a thousand words, remember. If your horse is £3k or under the ad is free if you book before the end of June . . . .
