Im after a medium duty set of clippers, £100 - £150
Horses have just moved home :) but always had yard owner clip them, not necessairily by choice!! What makes are best value for money and the best to use?
Thanks!!

I think you will struggle to find a medium duty set for £100-150 unless you buy second hand. I have a pair of Lister Stars which i bought from an equestrian shop on the internet for £197 and they are good value for money and are capable of clipping both my horses one after the other without any problems. Would highly recommend!

Hi,

I have just bought some Dextella clippers after my trusty heiniger clippers gave up the ghost after 15 years of usage. The Dextella are basically replica's of a very well known make and model of horse clipper but half the price :)

I was very hesitant at first as they are so cheap and were a couple of negative reports in the web about them but also many good reports too.

I spoke with the UK supplier who assured me that they have been supplying these clippers for several years to customers with no bad reports and that the are realible and robust and most importantly (despite what some posts on the internet state) they are fully safety compliant and meet UK electrical regulations. obviously come with a warranty too.

Anyway I bought them as I only have one horse to clip now I figured I would take the chance given the price, I used them this week and they were very good, I was impressed, they are noisier than some other clippers but neither I or my horse are bothered by the noise so it doesnt matter to us.

They clipped beautifully and they also come with two sets of blades which is a bonus. They are medium duty clippers and would clip, hog and de-feather no problem in my opnion. At the end of the day the are cheap but reliable and effective clippers and you get what you pay for, in this instance noisy clippers.

I would suggest you do a google search on them and see what you think yourself after reading others experiences with them. If you want to spend more to the top of your budget and a little more then I would recommend heiniger handy clippers :)

oooh quite interesting to find this post as myself i would like to buy some clippers

not sure what sort of "duty level" they need to be. I have 2 x 17hh warmbloods. Wouldnt be clipping them both on the same day as one needs sedating and it is probable the other may need sedating (will know more after attempting first clip). I will probably clip both horses 2 or 3 times this winter.

I dont have a great deal of clipping experience and would like to make a good tidy job of each of them so not sure whether some are particularly better for not leaving lines etc. Also the price of new blades etc is another factor as dont want to pay a lot for replacement blades.

Would rather not have very noisy ones, and want the ones that plug into mains rather than battery powered ones.

Any advice will be gratefully received. Will have a look at the Lister Stars though, thanks

What shop did you get them from? Does anyone know of any "good" offers on clippers at the moment either?

thank you :)

Thanks for the advice :)
I think i may go with the lister stars, they seem to have a good write up and seem good value for money, your right i will struggle to get some for £100-£150 but i'd rather spend more and know that they are right for the job!
Excited for clipping now! :D

I have lister stars and they are brilliant! As with all clippers plenty of oil will stop them overheating (I have never had a problem with mine). :)

Ive just bought some second hand Heiniger handy horse clippers on ebay for £80, im really pleased with them. They are quite quiet, small and lightweight.
