I'm moving to new yard at the end of the month and one stable has rubber matting and the other doesn't. Which horse should I put in which stable??

I have two nags. One is a 13.2hh 30yo pony, a retired field ornament who the children plod about on occasionally. She has a lumpy/fluidy knee but is perfectly field sound. The other is my 15yo 14.3hh cob who I ride, doing dressage, hacking, Trec etc.

I feel the old fogie would benefit more from the matting, being old and a bit doddery, but then would it be better keeping the cob sound, as she is used more and it would have more effect on me if she was to take a knock one night and be stiff in the morning.

As above if they will both be in/out for the same amount of time. If one (the oldie?) can live out closer to 24/7 then mats for the one who is in most :-)

I think I am inclined to agree with you. They are both in for the same amount of time (overnight in winter, out all day, out 24/7 in summer). Feel bad about choosing. Might have to scour Ebay for some more matting.

Disagree, mine all have rubber except my oldie. She also has stiff/sore knees but she pees far more than the others and it gets under the rubber and stinks. In the winter I cannot get it dry fast enough. Don't think that can be healthy so she just has a deeper bed and no rubber.
