Hello, I am looking to put my mare into foal but am so confused as to what to put her to! She is a 16.3hh ISH out of Fahavane Arctic Star, lines of Arctic Que. I've read holsteiners cross nicely with them. She has a big jump but her confirmation could be improved and feel she needs more athleticism and a bit more spark as she is very laid back. I am based in Hertfordshire. Also how does it work with registering the foal if I don't put her to another ISH? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

What are you hoping to breed? Do you specifically want a jumping horse, or are you looking to breed a good allrounder? If you want a horse to do a bit of everything then you would be welcome to come and see my boy - we are based 10mins from Hertford. Although I do mainly dressage with him, he has a good jump too. If you specifically want to breed something with jumping in mind then there are lots of talented jumping stallions available

I would prefer a good allrounder and something to do a bit of everything with. She has had foals before in previous home so knows what to do! What breed is your boy, height etc? :) I'm in Stevenage so not too far at all.

Well Aritc Que is a fabulous eveniting line. I would probably put sonething like Honor Cruise or something with Cruising/Sea Crest in them to preserve her Irishness and add scope and pep-Cruisings/SeaCrests are fairly 'active' types so should help with that. I would be looking at a long lined stallion for this one. How about Royal Concorde? He is by Concorde out of a beautifully bred ISH mare.:

He has lovely ISH lines as well and stands in England as far as I know?
I would probaby go TB though if it was me, something long lined and refining or near TB like Mighty Magic?
Nice mare by the way :)

I did have a look at Honor cruise and he is a lovely stallion as is Royal Concorde. I think I would prefer to keep the TB line. There's just so many stallions out there it's difficult to narrow it down.

Thank you, she is a sweetie but unfortunately can't be ridden anymore and she's only 10 so need to do something with her.

I used to have a cracking Beachtime x Sussex Diamond x Arctic Que mare who was bred by Brendon Stud. She had a fabulous foal to El Thuder (also at Brendons) who was being produced/aimed at an eventing career. Brendons also have several Arctic Que's that they have several Arctic Que bred horses crossed with the likes of Caretino Glory and others.

This was my El Thuder colt out of the Arctic Que lines mare:

Royal Concorde is back in Ireland now. Stood in Hutchinson's Ballyquirke Stud last year.

Maybe Power Blade is worth considering? Nice TB stallion with decent progeny that seem pretty straight forward

avanti amorous archie is only just round the corner from you!
Cant praise this stallion eno, having ridden him and now have a super filly by him, there isnt a mare a wouldnt put to him personally!

Regarding papers contact the AES. You will probably be able to have her accepted by them and get full papers if she has a full pedigree for 3 generations. You could also go the SHB(GB) route but they will definitely want to see your mare before accepting her (not sure what the rules are this year with the AES, they're changing) which is a lot more expensive as you have to get your mare 2 stage vetted before taking her.

Once you have AES or SHB(GB) papers you can choose any stallion who is graded by that society PLUS (and this, to me, is a huge plus) you can choose any foreign stallion that is graded into a WBFSH recognised studbook (which means virtually all major studbooks) and you can get full papers for the offspring.

What kind of offspring does he throw? He seems quite chunky, not sure how he'd cross with my mare

why cant she be ridden anymore?

We rescued her from Ireland last year and when she was poor she was very cold backed but able to be ridden but as soon as she put on some condition it seems the scar tissue on her chest and shoulder hurts her so any weight on her shoulder makes her go absolutely crazy but the vets can't find a way to treat it
