Muppet is currently off work with a collateral ligament injury and fractured sidebone. I am contemplating putting her in foal in the spring - vet has given the go ahead, in fact thinks an extended period of rest may do her good.

Nothing is decided, it is still just a thought. I have been looking at stallions, but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts. I quite like the look of Stanhopes Diddicoy, a friend has two youngsters where she works and suggested him as a possibility.

this is Muppet... it is a bit of an old picture, but nothing has much changed! She stands around 15.3 and is out of an Irish cob mare by an unknown stallion - she was a BOGOF!

She is a lovely looking mare! Personally I would not use Stanhopes Diddicoy as personally I have never been that impressed with his babies myself and I don't love his temperament. Plus, with your mare being part cob you might end up with something quite chunky.

What are you looking to hopefully eventually do with the offspring??? Do you prefer a coloured stallion or would solid be ok???

From a coloured stallion viewpoint, one I have used this year and am very very excited about the expectant baby, is Sempers Spirit, who is also homozygous and so will def be a coloured baby.

Other coloureds worth thinking about would be:
Nederland Esquire - owned by Brendon stud, this boy is only a 4 yr old but is licensed AES and boy can he jump!!!
Goshka Ringo - again homozygous this boy has had some very nice babies.
Amour G - by Goshka Ringo this baby is stunning and was champion of his grading!
Alderfarn VII - lovely stallion standing in Wales and sire of the coloured boy in my banner
 
Thanks for that, exactly what I wanted, to get some thoughts from people who have personal experience of a range of stallions. I'll go and have a look!

I want to get something that could turn it's hand to anything really, unaffiliated and lower level affiliated - I'm not looking for a Badminton winner. Muppet is 7 now, and has done everything asked of her until her injury, from hacking, all pony club activities, hunted once or twice and competed successfully local level. I would like coloured, but certainly not against looking at anything else.

Also add Sambertino to the list of coloured boys above.
100 day performance tested scoring 10's for temperament and ridability.
Throws talented horses that amateurs can ride
 
OOOh - cannot believe I forgot Sambertino - and also his son Samai!!

I do know from good experience of my my 4 yr old and also his 2 younger full sisters and others, that Alderfarn throws babies with incredibly good temperaments. My boy and one of his full sisters have shown in hand as babies and are always in top 3 and my boy has been one of the nicest and most enjoyable babies to break in and bring on, proving to have an awesome jump as well as move. His dam is a Welsh D x
 
For coloureds, what are peoples thoughts on: Decoupage and Odwig????

On a personal note I like SpecialD (Metal, Ferro) and coloured!!

on a solid colour point if you want UK based I really like Cashpoint at meadow stud and I do have to say Movistar as I have one of his babies!!
 
Decoupage - not heard good things about him I'm afraid.

Odwig - not one that ever really jumps onto the radar but one I would think that might be a bit on the heavy side for this mare.

Special D is not coloured.....is it a son you are thinking of??? As this Special D is definitely a black (http://www.stalspeciald.nl/Website-SpecialD/Website-SpecialD-ENG/home-eng.htm) but he has had a couple of colorued sons
 
Eventrider - I have an Alderfarn youngster (Greenvale Audacity) who like yours has a super temperament and was lovely to break.
He is still entire and will be attending his Chaps grading next spring hopefully.
We are going to do some dressage and jumping over the winter and have some fun.
 
Jomiln - so nice to hear that you have Audacity, I was only speaking to someone the other day about him as she had asked whether he had been graded yet or not!!! Good to know he is going in the spring! Have you got any recent pics of him??

I would go to a thoroughbred boy if she was mine . With her more unknown breeding it often helps to go to a more known breeding , if that makes sense ! Groomsbridge is one I know(from the forum )that has some lovely TB boys ( and a very nice stressage tb new boy ). For a BOGOF she is a marvel , how come Sainsburys and Tesco don't have her like in store ??? !!!!???
 
Really don't like to be over critical but thinking the colour of the stalllion is the least important thing,though i know you did not mention a specific colour.
our own mare is similarly built to your own so would go for something pure bred to try and elimainate the possibility of producing a foal with an over amount of bone,but it all depends on what your plans for the foal are,good luck,breeding can be a bit of a lottery.
we have bred 3 foals from the same mare/different stallions but none alike.
 
I am also going to jump on the band wagon & say stay with a pure bred, because of your unknown quantity with the mare. TB is ideal & if you want to stick to colour & dont mind the high stud fee I Was Framed is a TB http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?z=mWEFMf&d=i+was+framed&x=41&y=14 .

I am sure if you send some side on conformation photos of your mare Sally of Groomsbridge will be able to tell you which of her boys would best suit.

From what I can see of Muppet I think he could suit her very well indeed. Without compromising on bone, he is an elegant moving horse with a superb temperament.

Not only is he that, he also has a gorgeous temperament - just like my Ringo filly has.
 
We have a 7/8th TB colt Homozygous Tobiano and as long as your mare is not Homozygous as we would double the price for this, we are much more inline with sportshorse breeding in fact we have the only bloodline in the world of Sarahs pride the showjumper in our breeding programme.
you can not go anywhere else for this yet! unless its been bred here.out of only 1 living daughter of his.if you are going to breed than its a good idea to think that one day you may have to sell on very good luck with your search.

Colour with out compromise.
 
This is my mare Dolly, who looks to be a of a similar build and type to your mare. She is currently in foal to Sambertino, and due in May. I have met him, and quite a few of his offspring. All have been a real pleasure to meet. If my foal is half as nice, I think I will be incredibly lucky.

I have a Diddicoy granddaughter who has a superb temperament and there arev plenty of his stock eventing with amateur riders, so I wouldnt be too worried on the temperament front, however in terms of stamp I would personally look for a lighter framed stallion.

If you want to go coloured then definatly look at Sempers Spirit or another coloured stallion that is a lighter type is Vincent II who was standing at Millfield Stud.

As you have at least a 50% chance of a coloured foal from your mare there are also some super solid coloured stallions you could consider. I would be tempted to look at a blood horse such as a Thoroughbred or Trakehner. Will give you a very good idea of what you will get in a foal .
