Hi,, I am looking for some suggestions on some new stirrups.

My foot is constantly slipping back in mine, I'm not sure if the tread has just worn down or the tread on my boots has worn down but lately my foot is constantly slipping through. I do try to keep my toes up but find I still slip.

Any ideas for some really grippy stirrups please.

Really sorry and you'll probably not want to hear this but It sounds to me like a position problem, especially with it only being the one foot (assuming it is the one foot as you said foot, not feet!). Have you got your lower leg secure or is it moving without you noticing and have you got your balance square into both stirrups? Are you perhaps tipping forward very slightly? Would be getting a friend or an instructor just to check your position and just see if they can pick anything up :)

I had some mountain horse stirrup treads and they where awful! foot constantly slipping back out the stirrup in trot! i changed them to some cheapy treads and problem disappeared and feet feel secure.
What treads have you got? maybe worth replacing them

Try the lightweight wide treads, as they have built in metal grips which are good. Also it is the weight going down the leg which should lower the heels, not lifting the toe. You could be sitting crooked for some reason if only losing one stirrup. Hope you sort the problem.

Agree with a previous poster that it could be a problem with your position. Have someone look at you while you ride (or video you) and then perhaps take it from there. A good osteopath or physio should be able to help you

I don't know how grippy they are as I don't have them yet (payday next Tuesday) but I am in love with JIN stirrups, my next purchase!

You don't pull your toes up, the idea is to keep your body in the correct position, and the weight will be pushing the heels down.

One of my favourite expressions of my instructor is to "think of toes up, rather than forcing heals down".
Apparently heals down can make you tense the leg further up.

I think the problem is that my feet are constantly wet and the tread is worn down, although my position could be better, which would probably help.

Get some cheesegraters if you feel it's a grip problem. Though your weight should be going down your leg into your heel, rather than just forcing them down by holding your toes up. So you should feel a stretch on the back of your leg rather than tense muscles along the top of your foot.

As above get a set of cheesegrater stirrups! I have a very restricted ankle due to damage from a previous fall and find I can now only ride comfortably in Sprengers, but I still found my foot still slipped in them over a course of jumps. They have recently brought out cheesegrater inserts which you can retro-fit, now I find my foot does not move at all. You just have to be careful to remember not to get hold of the middle section when pulling your stirrups down & keep the leathers out of the way of any scraping when running them up, due to the sharpness.

I have a real cheap pair of black plastic ones with a wide tread (I think fast tack direct maybe) they have a sandpaper-like base and I find them really steady
Freejump ones are the best for secure legs but they are expensive (and hard to get hold of- I got some for Christmas but they aren't in stock yet!)
