My TBx is reg in the auxiallary AES stud book and she was covered by Jumbo (SHGB). If all goes well and she foals as expected in June and the foal's OK (lots of ifs, I know) which stud book should the foal be registered with? Is one better than the other? I hope to breed an eventer???

Well you could reg with either & overstamp with the other. I think I would go with SHGB but then that is because it opens up showing at County level which is restricted to SHGB reg/overstamped animals.

The AES is the most successful sportshorse studbook in the UK. I'd go with them. The SHB(GB) still seems to be the show horse studbook rather than sports horse studbook (a major mistake in my ever humble opinion!)

As Jumbo is fully approved and 5 generation pedigree the foal should be eligible for the upgrade if the mare has 3 gens of parentage known. Is not a benefit per se...just a different status in the studbook

I'm another one who would go AES .... they have been steadily rising up the international rankings over the last few years, and I like much about their emphasis on competition performance for the stallions that they approve, and that they describe themselves as an inclusive studbook.

With my first bred, I registered him with the AES and then had his passport overstamped by the SHBGB when I was considering showing him in-hand as a 2 year old.

I think they are both as bad as one another!

But if you want to do showing classes at any of the county show you will need to have the little one either passported with the SHB(GB) or have the passport overstamped.

:)

Well said Springs.

I am going down the Weatherby's NTR route with our boy. :)
