I have been recommended two different supplements newmarket and coravet from viewers and my vet.Have any of you had good results for arthritis of the hock with different supplements.Im also considering oil as a lubricant although he has oil in his alpha with oil I guess this is for weight maintenance and no good for mobility.Im waiting for xrays to see extent of damage and long term prognosis. He is a 6 yr old tb so will have to stay on supplements long term I would imagine.

The thing with Cortavet (vet strength Cortaflex) is this supplement claims to use the smaller isolates of glucosamine and chondroitin which can pass more readily into the bloodstream to the target area. They claim that other supplements using the whole molecule are inefficient. You can believe that or not, but I think you won't go far wrong with either of these supplements (Cortavet or NJS). They are both very highly rated and you will find good reports of both of them on this forum and elsewhere.

When my big mare was diagnosed with arthritis of the coffin joint, I put her on Extra Flex HA. She had two joint injections and my vet's prognosis was fairly guarded as she is such a heavy mare (17hh Clydesdale x). However after 6 months rest, she has been sounder than ever for the last 3 months.

Ive had my mare on Mobifor for the last 4 years and she's doing great on it. A 2 ltr bottle costs £50 and lasts me about 3 months

My 19yr tb mare has been on newmarket joint supplement. She has arthritis in both hocks, had injection treatment, then remedial shoeing when in work and also put on newmarket.
It was recommended to me by vet and equine clinic (when she went there for something else) said it was good choice - they had loads of tubs of it lined up...so I wasnt the only one using it!!!
Since the treatment 3/4 years ago she has been on it...cant go a day without it...once you start you have to be consistent.
There are so many options out there but I took the advice of my vet and also checked it out at the equine clinic.
Newmarket Joint Supplement some people say is expensive but it lasts ages and is pure glucosamine which was said to be best for her.
She also has apple cider vinegar.
Good luck...

My horse has just been diagnosed with arthritis in the hock, I asked about joint supplements and my vet said that the science behind NJS is dodgy (can't comment on the truth of this, just what he said!) and that they recommend Synequin. It's very expensive though, they quoted me £172 a tub

though I have since found it on the internet for £118.

Ill look it up but my vet is dropping a supplement of today,I think I will have to go with his advice at this point see what he leaves me and keep a open mind and look for improvements. If his supplement doesnt work I can look at the others on offer Ill bear your recommendation in mind .I dont mind what it costs as long as it works.thanks
