Anyone have any experience of these trailers? I want one with opening doors and a ramp, as my horses will step into a trailer but still want option of a ramp front & back for the youngsters.

Seen a few Batesons around which look good, but have not seen any of the others in the flesh! Fautras also look good, but not sure if they do the ramp as well and quite pricey after adding on the extras.

Cheval seem very reasonable as do the Requiste, though not sure of the quality and how high the step up is to the trailer.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a Bateson Ascot (for sale coincidentally!) - I think they're great trailers. Very well built, easy to tow and give a nice smooth ride for the horse. Plus you've got a built in tack locker in the nose of the trailer and a built in hitching mirror so making solo hitching easy.

I've had a good look at the Requisite trailer and they look and feel very cheap. The Cheval's standard of finish is nowhere near that of Bateson's and the only person I know who had a Cheval had no end of problems with it.

Fautras are supposed to be very good but I've no experience of them personally. There aren't many for sale second hand and the ones I've seen are all very heavy to tow.

Thanks, that's a great help. Looks like it will probably be the Bateson then. Does yours have the doors and pullout ramp for loading. If so, can you send me more info on yours?

We have a Bateson Ascot and its brilliant. Also, bateson are extremely helpful people if you have any queries etc. I chose the usual back ramp, not the American Doors purely because I noticed the gap at the top of the American Doors wasnt very much so I thought the usual ramp offered more air-flow and brightness.

Sorry

- mine's got the traditional pull down rear ramp rather than the barn doors and mini-pull out ramp. I couldn't find any second hand barn door versions when I was looking so good luck!

We have a Bateson, that is also for sale

(hubby sick of camping at shows in the pouring rain and we think Donks will travel better in one)

Sorry to hijack post but can i just ask people with bateson how it is towing wise, I have been thinking about getting one of these trailers cos it seems to be lighter than the others but was worried it might be a bit light and move about. Also how are they for head room, my horse although only 16.2 carries his head quite high and if spooked throws it up higher so am worried about him banging his head.

My mum had a Cheval and replaced it with a Bateson as she felt the quality was much better. The floor bowed a lot in the Cheval but it is a cheap and cheerful trailer and the guy who services her trailers did say it was actually much stronger than it appeared.

As far as I can tell the Requisite is the same as a Cheval. I've no idea about the Fautras.

Pinkwellies - The Bateson tows brilliantly. It is very light so that you don't feel it there but there have been no problems with it stability. We don't have anything bigger than 16hh in it though - can't remember which model of Bateson it is at the moment.

Thanks everybody for your help. So if anyone is selling a Bateson Deauville or Ascot with american doors and ramp in good condtion, please let me know.
StinkerStonkersMum (great name), if yours is suitable, can you let me have some more info.

I used to have a Fautras with American Doors. Wonderful trailer, really light to move by hand and towed beautifully. Mine had American Doors at the back and one big door at the front. No horses who went in it, old and young, had any problems stepping down. I way prefer step-ups to ramps and horses appear to like them better too.

I sold mine for a song when I emigrated.

Really pleased with my Bateson Deauville, traditional ramps which was the important factor.Handy tack storage. Great to tow and handle, horse loves it!. Fautras are excellent and worth a look though.

Thanks again for all your replies. I think we will def go for the Bateson with american doors. Some of my horses are from USA anyway, so used to stepping on and off. The main reason for wanting the ramp as an option is in case some of the youngsters need encouraging and also for resale.
Another plus with Bateson is they do an optional full width breast bar to travel mares and foals.
(Didn't realise IW now did ramps as an option, but as far as I'm aware the front unload is not kerbside)

had a look at the requisite range of trailers last time i was at robinsons...they are very cheap and badly finished. i wouldnt buy one personally.
