I need to buy a trailer for occasional and emergency use for a mare & foal (horse not pony size). It has to be lightweight as will be towing with a good estate car not a 4x4. Either a double with the centre partition removed or a model designed particularly for a mare & foal.
The three makes I have narrowed down that are safe to tow with our car are; Bateson, Fautras & Cheval Liberte. So which of those would you guys recommend please ????

Out of those, I would go for the bateson personally. they are lovely trailers.

I know 2 people with Fautras, though and they really like them. They are ok for 1 horse & would probably have a good space for a mare & foal, but I wouldn't buy one with the intention of travelling 2 full size horses with the partition in.

No experience of the cheval liberte

We looked at several makes, and went for the Ifor. I didn't like the metal up the walls of the Bateson, the build quality of the Cheval Liberte or the weight of the Fautras. I would be very surprised if you could tow a Fautras with an estate car. If you can get an old Bahill, that would be lighter than any of them.

No, done all my research on weights etc and the Ifor is too heavy. The Fautras and the Cheval Lib both do a lightweight trailer in their range particularly designed for a mare & foal which can be towed safely with a saloon. Bateson do a 'no frills' lightweight double which can have the partition removed and do the same job - again within a safe towing weight.
Will check out at a Bahill too though thanks.
