I am looking to get a trailer, which ones are best and what is good to tow with? I am looking mainly at Ifor Williams as they seem to have a good reputation.
Or if you are looking to sell let me know! Am in Surrey.
Thanks!

Bateson...

Ascot has a tacklocker, Deuville have saddle racks. Like the boston doors, although that's an optional extra. Prefer that you unload on passenger side. Standard trailer takes 17hh.

And I just really dislike IW. I think that they are very noisey and the fact that you can get them flat packed puts me off....

Afraid I didn't like the new ifors, plasticy, rattly and I don't want a moldy trailer! Just too many probs for me to consider travelling out beloved mares in! We have only just got our new trailer, so took a trawl around all the makes! Didn't bother with a recent 'old style' ifor as you can buy a new trailer for what most of them round here go for, then add on a service, brakes and floor check and you will have spent more on a old trailer than you can get a new one for! After loads of research we went for a wessex Olympian. Absolutly love it, one of our mares who got very stressed and worried in an ifor travels like a dream in it and is nice and calm. Lots of the things which are extras on other makes are included, really love the leather padding inside too. The wessex is nice and wide too which is helpfull as we have two middle weight mares, over 16hh. Would def buy the same if we had to make the choice again and would def recommend them. http://www.wessex-trailers.co.uk/product_categories_GO.asp?CategoryID=8

i wouldnt have an ifor given, and its nice to see they have got some flack in the HH this week over the mould situation and the build quality of the new 506 & 511's as they didnt want to accept there was a problem
personally i love my equitrek but if i hadnt got it i wouldve gone for a rice/richardson on the bateson - imho they hare superioir to the ifors

I had a Ifor William then sold it and bought a horsebox, then when I stopped competing I decided to buy another trailer,

I immediatley went back to an Ifor williams as they are not noisy, ideal for what I need it for and they hold there value which says a lot about them.

However I do not justify the extra cost of a HB506, I originally had a HB505 and when I went back to an Ifor Williams I again bought the HB505.

Never heard of them being flat packed and everyone I know who has an Ifor Williams love them.

I would also never buy a trailer with a wooden floor, they rot too easily..

The Equitrek are great trailers but then you need a good 4x4 and they are a lot more expensive.

We have 3 IW trailers 14ft triaxle stock, 506 and a 6ft gp pe6,and have no complaints and lost count of how many animals and miles they have done, main complaint is finding a vehicle not attached to a IW trailer!

We have an Ifor 510 and love it, used regularly and the horses load and unload well in it, plenty of room.

Hear that the new 506 and 511's arent as good as the 510 and 505's - mould being a big problem. Friend also has an older 505 and swears by it had it years and years.

I've just bought a 1 owner 5 y old IW 505 from an IW dealer. It came with a hitchlock and wheel lock, had just been serviced and has a 6 month warranty. I paid the same price as you would buying it privately. It has a small leak from the roof (where the nose cone joins onto the main body - the sealant needs replacing) and the IW dealer I bought it from have arranged for me to take it to an IW dealer that is nearer to where I live (when it stops blinkin raining!). Most people I know have an IW and are very happy with them. My friend has had one from new and it's about 20 years old and is still going strong. I actually prefer the 505/510 to the newer ones - I think they look a bit more solid, and they're more tried and tested. Also, at over £4k they're a lot of chops! If you can get to a main IW dealer, I would def have a look at a 505/510 depending on what size you need. I tow it with a Landrover Discovery, and its brilliant.

I've hired a Rice Richardson Ultra too and they're really solid trailers, but they have a rot proof plastic floor... not too sure about that...

My YO has a Rice Beaufort 60 (it's massive) and she's very happy with it. The only downside to it is, it's very very heavy so you need a very powerful heavy towcar.

HTH :)

I bought a second hand (5 yr old) IW 510 last year. I bought it because it was big enough for my 17.1hh.
I looked at bateson, richardson etc but I read somewhere that someone had said if the worst happened and their trailer was involved in an accident they would rather their horse was in an IW than anything else!
That kind of stuck with me and I have to say I am very happy with my trailer - it isn't noisy, my horse loads and travels with no problems.

my horse gets nervous in the ifor, too rattly for him. He goes ok in a Bateson but his favouurite are Equitreks (typical bloody expensive taste!). I have only rented trailers but am now also looking to get my own and am going to trial the new Equitrek trail treka. Has same features as normal equitreks (i.e: side load) but is more the size and weight of an Ifor so shouldnt need a tank to tow it! :D
