Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy my first trailer and wondered what people's preferences are. I'm considering rear facing as when I've read research untethered horses tend to go into the rear facing position by themselves which suggests to me that's their most comfortable travelling position. What's people's thoughts on this? I've looked at Equi-Trek so far. Has anyone had any experience with them? Thanks

I love my Cheval. Its light, easy to tow and handle on the ground for me being small and petite.

That being said there are so many Ifor's so clearly they are good and favoured.

I will say the opposite that I love my Equitrek. Its 15yrs old, and never let me down, and has done about 100,000 miles. The horses travel really well, whatever the distance.

I bought a 10 year old bockmann trailer as my first trailer having just passed my test. It’s so light and quiet to tow. The horses load and travel really well in it, every horse I’ve had on it seems to like it, and you can’t even really feel it behind the car, even with two chunky cobs in the back. Mechanics also very impressed with it when I had it fully serviced, expressing how well made they are.

I would not have an EquiTrek; any design where there is a breast bar followed by a narrow door is a disaster waiting to happen IMO. I went to look to buy one and was shocked at the quality of the clips etc. and the finish.

I have used a Futuras and it looked well made but the one I was using made the horses turn round to stand diagonally backwards. The trailer was only 6'6" wide inside, so when the horse wears a 6'9 rug it means that there really is not sufficient space to turn. I was using the trailer as a loading lesson for an owner and horse, no wonder the horse was reluctant.

I have used Ifors, they seem OK.

I love the look of the Bockmann trailers. Being rear unload would not upset me, as most front unload trailers don't have sufficient space for large horses to unload at the front when there are 2 on anyway.

I wouldnt have an Equi-wreck if you paid me!

Ifors are quite good but are forward facing unless you get some of thier much bigger trailers. As are the Cheval Liberte ones.

Ifor 506/511 every time, I know it's not rear facing but every horse I have had in one has travelled perfectly. One with sliding windows is well ventilated and they hold their value. I have a lorry but if I went back to a trailer I would always go for an Ifor.
