Which type of saddles do you own? More than one? or one for all?

My friesian is in a Heather Moffett GPT and does a bit of everything - my TB x ID is in a HM dressage which I hack in happily and have sat many a spook and spin!

Just the one. A leather Ideal GP, do everything in it....schooling, jumping, showing ect. It has removable knee rolls but I've never felt the need to take them off. I do fancy getting a dressage saddle in the future for flatwork & dressage but the main importance to me is that it fits my horse correctly & doesn't hinder my position.

So I have more saddles than horses. My little mare (endurance) has her own, its a K2 Albion. My Arabian gelding has an SLK Albion for dressage, but then last year I decided to try a bit of jumping so now he has a GP as well. I still have my old Bates dressage saddle, which doesn't fit anything I own, but isn't worth selling.

Then I have a young horse who will be ready to start late this year .........

I have around 18 saddles ...

My 2 tbs share 2 saddles - one is a very neat straight cut show saddle (Jeffries), the other is a working hunter saddle (Hazelden).

My fell has a working hunter saddle, I cant remember the make.

My dartmoor has the most saddles of the bunch! But thats because he has changed shape so much over the years and I have kept the redundent ones.

My shetlands have 3 pads between them - 1 Zoe Snape saddle and 2 Milners. Who wears what depends entirely on who is riding them at the time.

I also have a small collection of 14-16in havannah show saddles for natives that I don't use and cant seem to get rid of.

Oh and my exercise saddle for work.

Thanks for all your replies! I managed to find a gp saddle with straighter flaps for a great price, which I brought after reading some of your posts.

This means I have most of the saddle budget left to buy a smart dressage saddle, which I will use pretty much daily and for showing, with the gp allowing me to jump.

My ISH has got an Albion K2 GP which is lovely and comfortable with lovely soft knee rolls :)

My Appy has an Exselle Jumping Saddle (usually a mono-flap saddle but I had mine made into a double flap one) which has knee rolls in the outside of the saddle and I have found it is a fab saddle to help me to keep my position over fences.

I also have a Falcon Hawk Event Saddle which my Appy had before he changed shape and got fitter. This is also a nice comfortable saddle. And I have a couple of Wintecs which are great for my boy's fluctuating weight over the summer months as they have an interchangeable gullet. They are also useful for when I get project horses. :)

Hmm well my intention is to have two, dressage for in the school and the few comps that we do and a gp for hacking ... However we tend to be lucky if we manage to get one of either type to fit at any one time.

at the moment I have 3 saddles, 2 of which need selling the other needs adjusting as the man seems to decided to go up a gullet size and I still need to find a gp that fits his current shape as the gp saddle isn't adjustable AARRRRGGG!!!:p

My 1 has a jump/xc and a dressage saddle.

I have an Ideal Jessica for dressage which is a lovely saddle and fits so many different horses, a lot of friends also have it. My jump/xc is the Ideal Impala, again such a lovely saddle, knee blocks aren't huge but you feel so safe.

Defo an Ideal fan :)

OH asked if I needed a 2nd saddle to buy out of his bonus. Honestly, no, the one I have is perfect. Saddle exchange Comfort maker WH. Bought for hacking but decided to have a go at dressage and a bit of jumping. Love it. Shame. But strictly low level everything, I think you only need specialist stuff when you move up the grades.

Mine isn't very happy in a GP so I've changed to a WH saddle - he's comfy, it's fine for dressage and we're not going to be jumping big enough to really need much more than that! I'd love a dressage saddle but that's just too much of a luxury.

We have three, but only really use two:

- Albion close contact jump saddle
- Ideal dressage saddle
- Kent & Masters GP (this is the one we don't use much)

My mare has one thorowgood GP (the original saddle!) and later on a lovely jeffries GP. The TG comes out when it's raining or when she is coming back into work from various injuries and has got a bit wider than usual - I much prefer the Jeffries!

If she ever gets better then I would love a dressage and a jump saddle but as all we have achieved so far is one outing I think i had better save my pennies for the vets bills!

The others have one each (GP saddles)
