hi

I am going to purchase a micklem bridle but not sure which version to get. I understand the basic micklem bridle leather isn't great. Is the competition or deluxe bridle any better. I have found a website doing great deals on them.

Many thanks

already tried one on my boy and he loves it. The one I borrowed was not great quality but a few years old. I believe it was the version you can use as a side pull bridle.

I use the Micklem multi bridle. I lung from the ring on the noseband and sometimes use it as a headcollar. I've ridden with the sidepull bitless setting aswell. The leather quality isn't good, I don't know if the competition one is better. Mine has lasted, I only use it on one horse and I'm careful with my stuff. If you do lunge with it you have to make sure the horse is quiet. I'd say the nose ring could break if you have a horse that is hard to control. You can also lunge with it in the normal way you would with a bridle.

Actually, the nose ring on the multibridle is very tough, tougher than it looks :). Memorably it withstood a very cross 650kg maxicob trying to leg it for cover once in a sudden hailstorm. I use the multibridles on my neds as everyday bridles, as for my purposes the dual use as regular bridle/lunge cavesson is very handy.

The leather quality on mine (I have 3) is ok.

That is quite a test Tiddlypom!

I have the competitione deluxe. My horse loves it, after initial suspicion, and I'm happy with the leather quality.

I always thought the Micklems were quite good. The competition bridle (not used the deluxe) is nice, but the main difference over the everyday bridle is that it doesn't have the noseband ring. The leather quality doesn't compare with brands like Stubben, but they made useful multi-horse bridles on an SJ yard and the competition bridle certainly looks smart when on.

I have the competition one and I think the leather is as good as others in that price bracket. It wears and cleans up very well. It also looks really smart on.

I was going to get one but persuaded not to go that route.

I’ve got a multi bridle with the intention of using it bitless on my clydesdale. In fact I had it on her for the first time today.

The quality of mine is really lovely. I’m really impressed with the softness of the leather.

Get the one made of English leather. I've just had one of the "basic" ones in for repair where the leather that hold the D rings that the bit straps attached to had split on both sides. The quality of the leather was very poor.
