My girl has been confirmed as having laryngeal hemiplegia grade 3/4 and has been referred for surgery, tie back & laser hobday. I appear to have the choice of Rossdales or Oakham. Which would you choose?

I have a couple of issues; I have a 10 week old baby, who is breast fed that I need to take too, but I want the best for my mare. Oakham is nearer(2hrs) but rossdales(3hrs) do more of these ops( i assume). It is not life threatening but does need to be done correctly so other forum users have said, are oakham up to the job? They say they do 50ish a year but have to arrange 2 surgeons 2 weeks in advance to do my girl.

Confused and need clarity! Help!

Are they doing the surgery themselves or getting a surgeon in? The vet practice I worked for would bring Geoff Lane down for this type of surgery as IMO he is the best in the country for this op :)

Don't know who, chap called Neil for tie back someone else the next day for laser hobday. Tim Greet at Rossdales would do everythimg I think if she went there.

Of those two then I think I would personally go to Rossdales :) Tim is very, very well respected (of course I have nothing against Neal either).

I don't know Oakham, but I know Rossdales far too well. Really cannot fault them at all. Whether it be those on Reception, the stable hands or the actual vets. They're all so brilliant. Horse's care whilst they're staying there is second to none.

Another vote for rossdales, Tim operated on our 18month old last week, can't fault them for scheduled or emergency surgery.

I recently asked a question about Oakham vets regarding a lameness work up and had some mixed feedback from the forum - some glowing reports and others questioning their performance more recently. I appreciate my question was very different and each persons opinion is different, but may help you make your decision. I personally have no direct experience of either vet hospitals.
