I'm looking at getting my boy a waterproof fly sheet soon. I've been swinging between the PE stay dry, the weatherbeeta equalize, the shires maxiflow and the amigo aussie allrounder, but I can't decide which to go for. Money is tight so I don't want to spend the money only to find he's too hot or it isn't very waterproof etc. Has anyone used any of them? Would you recommend?

I have the same question! The only one I have seen used and in person is the shires one and the pony pretty much lived in it all year last summer except in the really bad heavy rain days. I think I would go with the shires. Or it was between shires and PE for me.

Well just to put a different spin on it. A horse at are yard has a pe sweetitch buster. With the 24hour rain we had the other day, he was out no shelter and was bone dry. There fly rugs seem to be more canvas like and maybe even waterresistant?

Am I missing something? It seems to me you'd be just as well off with an ordinary no fill waterproof rug. It does seem like a ploy by rug manufacturers to get horse owners to buy yet another rug

Normally I'd agree with you but pony had grass sickness a few years ago and can't regulate his temperature properly. He cooks in a full turnout when it's hot, but chills very quickly when he gets wet. I thought this might solve the problem if the weather is the same as last year!

I see your point and I agree that is a problem with our wonderful British weather. My problem is I don't understand, if they're waterproof, how they're any cooler than any ordinary rug. I have considered giving my pony an umbrella but as he has no health issues I just let him get wet :p

They're only waterproof along the top line, the rest of them are cool mesh fly rug :)
Before he was ill he was an out in all weathers type, but now he gets mollycoddled :o
