Which way to face stables.......? Another designing Q!

Now I know the best direction to face stables is South but would any of you happily face them East which would be quite sheltered?

Thing is the design I have looks better and i think would work better if they face East, however horses would have a better view if they faced South into fields..... It could also be pretty windy facing South if we get a Southerly wind , instead of across the yard towards house and large garage building..... which is East!

Does this make sense?

I would face the stables to the best view for the horses. But if that meant frequent strong winds then i would face them another way. If wind came from each direction fairly equally i would go for the view first!

The stables I rent face South. Not great actually as prevailing wind here is from the SW and they are quite exposed. The weather just blew the rain in throughout November/early part December...

At the previous yard, the stables did face East and it worked very well. What I would say is if you did build them facing east they would have all the summer sun beating down on the back wall all day long, which depending on what you are building them from could make them quite hot.

Oh, and the stables where I help out face East too.

So no, I don't think it would be a problem at all...

Thanks for your suggestions, its such a big decision!!
And the point about the sun is a very good one...
Our prevailing wind comes from the West but occasionally it really blows a hooly from the South....

TeddyT, the horses could look to their right and see fields!

I think the view should be your secondary consideration. You must place the stables to back into the worst weather.

with the back away from the prevailing weather. Since you are designing, why not have two doors which will solve your views issue or allow them to wander in or out
