Which Wellies?!

My Hunters have lasted 2 1/2 years of dog walking, sorting out of horses and the occasional ride. And they've been to several festivals (festivals in knee deep mud-not fun) and are still going very strong.

Maybe I'm just lucky :P

Another vote for Ariat Mudbusters!

After a few years of going through several pairs of cheap wellies every winter I decided to treat myself to a more expensive pair. I did have to exchange my first pair after a couple of months when they developed a leak but I think this was an exception and my "new" pair have coped very well so far! :D

I have aigle parcours. Bought them three weeks ago. They have now changed colour where they have been covered by my waterproofs. So now two very different shades of green. Not impressed!!

I would contact Aigle see if they are willing to replace.

I wear waterproofs all the time and no colour change on my Aigles. I also got them covered when putting Lime on a wall and they were fine despite me panicing.

I'm pleased with my Aigle wellies. My OH likes Muck Boots and he wears them for fishing and horsey chores. They keep him warm even when fishing!

Ones to avoid are Hunters - just don't bother....unless the idea of wet feet and frequent trips back to the shop to get yet another replacement pair appeals to you ;)

Muck boots...I have the 'Derwent' version and they are fabulous. I have lived in them for years, and am normally the only person with warm feet! There are other versions, but make sure you get ones with a chunky tread...i used to have the 'tack' ones (i think) and they were like walking on ice the whole time as bottoms were so smooth! But i love my new ones, and if your legs get a little too warm you can roll the tops down!

Ditto this, I've had the Derwent and the Avon in the past, can't decide which to get, I need new ones

Interested to see these replies - my latest pair of hunters have about 6 splits in them, after about 6 months light use. They are not the bog standard ones either (which i have never rated) but were around £100. Very disapointing.

I think I must have the 'tack' muck boot - great when its cold for keeping feet warm, but hopeless in mud!

I need wellies that have grip.

This happened to 2 friends of mine with their hunters, they contacted them and had replacments but its happened again so they no longer buy them, I've heard alot of people say the same thing

After reading through this im still confused about the valuable question of which welly!

From my previous posts youll know that ive had a rubbish experience with the Just Togs Mudrucker boot, and i find the muckboots too slippy in mud.

I work on a yard and so im in my wellies up to 12 hrs a day 7 days a week. So i need serriously hard wearing and WARM.

I like the price of the ariat boot you have all recommended but they look cold compared to the neoprene muckboot type welly!!! Are there any more recommendations for these types? I will not touch hunter with a barge pole, of JT for that matter now!!!

Another vote for muck boots. I have tried tons of wellies and these are by far the best! Totally waterproof, comfy and keep your feet nice and toasty :) Also you don't get that soggy sock effect that you do with the Hunters

Muckboots can be bought with different types of sole. The ones with the flat soles are dangerously slippery, but my OH has ones with a normal heel and big treads, which offer quite good grip in mud.

Does anyone ride in the Muck Boots?? I am looking at some Avon Muck boots and the photos they don't look too bad to ride in? Bought Mudruckers but the size I normally am is way too small :( so they are being sent back!

I've started riding in my Rok wellies that are like Muck boot tyne but only £35 and I'm happy to do so - I'm normally quite strict and only ride in my Bromonts but these are close fitting enough for a 20 min pootle but not slim line enough for schooling

When people say hunters nowadays are rubbish...from how far back? Had mine since dec 09 wear them everyday and ride in them, fab. Just bought yet more fleece liners. Did I just get lucky or are mine considered old school?

Thanks Ladylina83

I emailed someone selling them and they said too bulky but they don't look too bad to me. When researching heard something about the ROK wellies being uncomfotable, do you find this? And what is the fit like, do you have to buy a size up?
I'm only allowed to pootle on my mare at moment, just coming back into work after an injury and the is the laziest horse in the world so not too worried about having to jump/fall off and the boots getting stuck

Another vote for Muck Boot "Derwent" wellies - they're maybe not the prettiest wellies, but for warmth, grip, comfort and durability, they score 10/10 on all counts for me. I've tried so many other makes before but these are the best by far!

I finally replaced my Aigle Parcours Iso at Christmas, after 15 years! They have been worn every day for doing the horses, plus dog walking etc.

I can't recommend them highly enough and just hope that the new pair last as long!

Another one who says don't buy Joules wellies. They are rubbish. I had some Winstanley ones for Christmas. The lining on the heels wore out within a week and by the second week they had a big split in one of them. £39, so like other poster they got winged back pretty sharp:mad:

I could 't.get.the Rok ones on! I'm a size 4, yes perhaps a touch wide, but they were ridiculous! I went for black Le chameau all tracks instead love them.
