I know ultimately i have to decide but getting different peoples opinikns is always helpful & one of you may point out something i dont realise.

Sooo... Currently on a lovely yard thats £163 pm inc hay/bedding for diy livery. Good facilities & lovely people but they have to come in each night and my pony likes to be out and seems happier out so iv decided theres no need to pay for a stable i dont need! Plus my pay is c*** so could do with saving money.

Choices:
A) same estate but smaller ysrd down road. Stable/storage with outdoor school(no lights) & pony can be out 24/7. Hay/bedding not inc & field will be a sectioned off bit of a big field so not a lot grazing. 10mins from.home/2mins frm work, good hacking, still have help from current ym & friends local=£78pm

B) a diff yard-out 24/7(5horses on 10acres), outdoor school(no lights),hay inc in winter,stable &bedding available extra cost,pretty
rubbish hacking, 20-30mins from home&work-£85pm

c)same estate as current yard & yard a-24/7 grazing that i can fence off etc my own way, very new field shelter that has bars across so can be a stable plus storage, water,no elec,no school, pony would be alone or i would have to get companion/someone to share, can do what i want, can hire a school down road=£78pm

Top 2 yards have water & elec btw..

Grazing is v important as i want him to be out 24/7 but happily not in a tiny muddy field. Not sure how important facilities are.

Which would you choose and why? :)

I would not go to B, too much travelling, would make the costs go up a lot with fuel prices and would eat into your time with the pony.

If you can get someone to come with you C sounds great, although I would want to get a generator - essential if you have to call the vet out for an emergency when it's dark. I would not consider C if pony is not going to have company, but I would think you would easily find someone to share if it is cheap.

If you can't find find someone to share C I'd go for A.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thankyou juliette :) im.thinking c...

I have a pony i know i can get as a companion who i want to have as he needs a proper home(owned by lovely but novice people) but would mean id be paying 2 rents so dont know :/

Sit down and add up the true cost including hay if not included and fuel - that may well make the decision for you. if you go for C and have 2 you will be paying more than you are now and fuel/time will prob rule out B.

If you can get someone to go with you to C it sounds ideal (I would never keep a horse on its own) but remember to consider where you would put any hay you may need to buy and what to do about a tack room - if you use part of the field shelter to store food you would need to make sure there was NO way horses could get to it (a sturdy shed may be easier).

I woudlnt worry about a school as you have said hacking is good, water to me is a must but electric can be rigged up very easily using a leisure battery and cheap lights (which you could take with you if you ever leave). Also make sure you have some hardstanding for farrier/vet etc.

Good luck
