Livery yards choice of 2
small friendly yard with 3 other horses, t/o most year, own paddock big stable, big outdoor school, some country hacking, assisted livery if needed but 8-10 miles away and only
way there get stuck in traffic
Or
Yard 5 min from home by car, much
bigger yard, indoor and outdoor
school (much smaller than current),
No assisted livery
smaller stable and hacking is just
around streets.
There is £10 difference in price but
then have petrol cost and time
traveling on top.. What would you choose and why?

Yard 1. Especially if the price of say turnout or bring in is cheaper than the petrol. Because it just sounds loads better really!

Yard 1.

We were on a place for years that only had street hacking so we barely went out. We moved to a new place last year & have fab hacking now - its great :D

Yard 1 although would prob keep an eye out for alternatives .... or..... talk to other liverys at yard 1 and see if you can alternate chores - tbh through the summer if they are out 100% then you could check on yours in the evening and ask YO to check in morning for small fee (be cheaper than fuel).

make sure you add up cost of fuel before deciding - i try to ignore how much my fuel costs but it is alot and mine are only 5 miles (13 mins away) but twice daily visit = loads of money !

I wouldn't pick yard 1 as it sound like the horses are kept solitary and because it doesn't have 365 turnout...
does yard 2 have 365 t/o in a herd environment???? If so I would pick that one for the sake of my horse.

i disagreee team barney - - mines on her own and happy as larry... shes been in a herd and on her own - on her own shes more settled and i can actually catch her too (always a bonus)

OP - yard 1 :)

Well mine is actually already at yard 1 and he is happy and settled I love the yard but just can't decide if will be easier time wise..to be nearer to him (and possibly not enjoy yard as much) or sit in traffic but know I like the yard... Other yard doesn't have t/o in winter when it's wet and would be turned out with one other.

If yard 2 does not turn out in winter you may find that a real issue and any extra time available is spent dealing with a more difficult horse plus the extra mucking out, feed and hay he will need. .
