Which XC boots? (Recommendations please!)

So I'm taking my boy for his first proper XC lesson on August 9th at Waresley, not for massive jumping or anything but my instructor has advised I put XC boots on all four legs rather than his standard tendon and fetlock boots that I use for SJ.

So, fair enough, I want to protect those legs as much as I can....however, upon going to shop for said XC boots I wasn't anticipating the sheer variety of boots on the market! (Naive, yes I know)

So I thought I'd ask you lovely people on here for any recommendations?

I'd prefer them to be lightweight and allow for plenty of airflow.

He's got 9½ inches of bone if anyone can advise on sizing as well (sometimes he fits in medium boots, sometimes he fits in large depending on the brand)

Much love for anyone who can help <3 :)

Depends on how much money you want to spend and what height, you may just get away with brushing boots all round

Well as a reference point I've been looking at either the Tri-Zone Allsport or the PE Super Lite Eventing Boot, so would be happy spending anything around that price.

I'm unsure if you meant height of the jumps or height of him.
Jump size would be up to a maximum for him of around 90cm/3ft
His height is 15.1

I have the PE air cooled event boots. The fronts are great but I have real trouble with the backs slipping as soon as I go through water. I always put tape on and they do fit, they just don't seem to stay in place once they're wet. They slip and twist around which defeats the object of having the strike pad!

Am currently looking at tendon boots for SJ and although I like the look of the PE ones I think I'm going to try a different brand because of the issues I'm having with the hind event boots.

Ditto PE boots, love mine. I have the air cooled for front and back and they are robust yet very lightweight and give good protection.

My mare is 15.2 TB with skinny legs, she takes small front and back. I did originally order medium for her hinds but they were huge, way too long. They swapped them without any hassle.

So if I were to get the PE's, would you recommend a medium size for his legs?

(PS your girl is absolutely stunning, I do love a pretty TB!)

Difficult to say really as he's the same height as my girl and the mediums were way too long for her, hence going for the smalls, obviously he's chunkier though. Best thing to do is to call PE as they're good at advising sizes over the phone. That way at least you've asked...

All this talk of PE- I blame you for the fact that I've just been on their sale pages and bought some tendon and fetlock boots! ;)

I like the PE boots too but I do think they seem well suited to finer types.

Just sold a pair of large hinds which were great for my 16 3 tb who had long but slim cannon bones behind but too long for my new 16 2 boy.

Both suit mediums in front (8 and 8 3/4" bone)

A friend with a heavier type found their boots came up too long for him and if she went down a size they were too narrow.

I've got PE in front on my boy (WB) but the backs slip so as I'd had recommendations around the ecogold boots I bought those instead. Will wait and see what they are like.

PE worked all round for my TB and I had no issues.

I keep looking on their sale page and resisting the urge to buy more things! I'm already off to my local country store's sale/open day to buy myself a lovely new SJ jacket!
Between that, buying Jack his new XC boots and the vet bill I got lumbered with recently I really shouldn't be browsing sale pages for fun XD

Yeah I do have this worry. When I tried the Shire's brushing boots on him the mediums were only slightly too narrow (no leg showing, but slightly tighter than I would have preferred) but fit the length of his leg lovely, whereas the large were really quite large and slightly too long for him.... so I'm thinking he's closer to a medium size in general.

I'd say the Lemieux come up quite big, I had to send them back to go down a size and my boy is a pretty standard full size. Lovely boots though!

I've got the PE air cooled ones and I really rate them, they are cool, and dry quickly when going through water etc. my boy is 15.2 tb x standardbred and he has mediums all round and I've never had any problems with fit.

I have the trizone allsports boots, they are light and allow air flow and they're meant to offer good protection too I think. I have a 16h warm blood and she has medium in the front and large behind :)
