I'm now facing a dilemma with my livery yard. I'd be grateful for your opinions on which you would pick . Current yard is okay but lacks in services . Now I'm pregnant I'll be needing a bit more help with pony , here are the yards. I was at yard 2 for 5years before .

Yard 1current -

£30 p/week. 20minutes/10miles from home. Strict DIY will turn out if totally necessary but not keen. 3liveries . Shavings and hay bought in bulk by myself . Arena and good hacking . The others keep horses out 24/7 so rarely about or keen to do favours etc

Yard 2-

£40 p/week. 8minutes/4 miles from home . DIY but offer daily turnout . Large yard , lots of people , buying of shavings and hay onsite and added to bill. Can get horse mucked out if required also option of full livery. Decent hacking and arena . Also someone always there.

Im not taking it lightly as could do with no upheaval of moving etc

If yard 1 offers no help it has to be yard 2 unless there is an option 3, what you save at yard 1 will be spent in fuel and time getting there every day and if you have a problem there is no backup which in the winter may be a problem.

What be positive says, also what with you being pregnant you could use the extra help at yard 2 later on in your pregnancy :)

Thanks, I guess it's a no brainier. It just worries me about going back to a big yard is that the bitching etc may occur ! That was one of the reasons I left before but the main contributor to that has since left.

I don't know. I'm antisocial so would probably prefer the smaller yard, but tbh would always go for the one closer to home.

I wouldn't say I'm anti social , I just like my own peace and quiet after a days work ! Can't be doing with people meddling though , I suppose I'm older now and have the sense to say I'm not interested in listening to it .

Don't worry about b*tching on big yards, sometimes it's easier to get lost in the crowd/avoid troublemakers at a big yard than it is at a small yard, more people, more space usually. Imagine yard 1, only 3 of you there and they will help but don't sound keen to do it really, sounds like recipe for a nightmare to me. So, for me, I am another recommending yard 2 all the way!

I would go for yard 2. Cost irrelevant due to fuel savings. No need to fork out for bulk orders so better able to plan financially which will make a big difference when baby is born. The professional service of assisted DIY or even full livery when the time comes will be much more stress free than having to ask people to do something they don't want to do. Rather than your horse getting attention and proper care, it will probably just have hay thrown in and be an annoyance and that's what you may get at yard 1.

I agree that bitchiness is less likely to bother you on a large yard as when the gossips realise you don't play ball, they have plenty of others around to gossip with.
