While on the subject....what tack are your horses in and what do you do with them?

I find tck choices quite interesting, so often I see 'gadgets' that really don't need to be used.

I have a 16.1 7yo ex racehorse, who I will be honest is pretty sharp.

Hacking I wear plain cavesson with NS correction snaffle, NECK STRAP and an albion K2 jump saddle (lovely big knee blocks!).

Schooling, pessoa anky dressage saddle, NECK STRAP, and plain cavesson with either rubber mullen mouth full cheek snaffle or the correction snaffle.

Jumping, same as hacking but add a running martingale.

Really fast stuff (XC) hanging cheek snaffle, Mexican grackle, running martingale, NECK STRAP.

:D

14.2 Arab mounted games pony. Currently national level but international in the past.

Hacking - loose ring french link snaffle, caverson bridle and running martingale.

Competing - loose ring french link snaffle, flash bridle with dead sheep noseband and standing martingale.

Always made to measure saddle with low cantle and extended flap (i'm 5ft8 with long legs and have to have a small saddle due to his short back so most saddle flaps are too short!)

Hmm I'm terrible for swapping Fox's tack about

If anyone but me is riding her she is in a cotswald sport tongue saver snaffle and a flat cavesson or no noseband (depending on whether I've put it on her other bridle) or if they're hacking a kimblewick, again with either the flat cavesson or naked face.

However, I tend to switch between a pelham with double reins (never roundings) and the flat cavesson/naked face and an english hackamore (usually if we're going to jump). I would never hack her in the hackamore though as she has no respect for it, she knows she can get her head down and pee off quite easily if she so wishes :o She jumps and schools fantastically in it though :)

I don't bother with a martingale as she doesn't really need one.

I'll usually put over reach boots on as she has a tendancy to do this when she's feeling lazy and I'll usually use a light pair of tendon boots for jumping.

As for what we actually do....well, we just potter about schooling and hacking at present waiting for the riding club season to start so we can do some showjumping.

Oh and she is a 15 year old, 17hh KWPN.

Ok

K - 14.3 22yr old Welsh D x - is in a cob GP saddle, plain cavesson bridle, flash for schooling only, semi retired, loosering sweet iron snaffle for all disciplines. We competed in most disciplines but now hes just a happy hacker/pleasure pony :D

S - 14.2hh 5 yrs old Welsh D x Dales - is also in a cob GP saddle, plain hunter bridle, loosering frenchlink sweetiron snaffle for all disciplines, wears a breastplate/martingale for common ridings/XC/S. just getting her going, hoping to do ODES, XC/SJ, dressage and showing next year. Jumps with me up to 90cms but has been over bigger fences

I prefer plain tack, willing to use whats necessary though if i need it but prefer to strip right back at home and keep any extras for if I need them out and about :)

Appy, saddle, loose ring snaffle, no nose band

Exracer loose ring snaffle, normal nose band

Old mare, three ring gag on the second ring ( shock horror!) and flash (some one kill me:D) as she is very strong no matter what I use and I like the idea of brakes. Had her 13 years on march and this works the best, but when we are on sponsored rides she has a Pelham with double reins. She doesn't do snaffles, just ******s off.

Depends what I do. General schooling is flash and french link snaffle, hacking and jumping is a grackle, dutch gag and martingale.
Would love to get to the point where everything is done in his snaffle.

13 year old Appaloosa x, hunter, Exselle Jumping Saddle, hunting breastplate, loose ring french link snaffle bridle for everything but with a flash noseband for hunting. :)

Personally I like bridles, and as I pass the yard up the road who mostly do headcollars, I have noticed how terrified they generally look.......(riders and horses)
We always start everything that we buy with a snaffle, cavesson nose band, GP saddle, sometimes a martingale. They are generally TB's. Under the saddle I usually have a couple of polypads - but I am beginning to re-think that, sheepskin numnahs might be better. If they are strong, then we start with a drop nose band (flash or grackle) and might move to the three ring gag thing - but have yet to find many horses that are comfortable in that. I used to like the kimblewick for a stronger horse. I no idea what all these new fangled bits do - Myler and co.....far too complicated.

5 year old 17hh warmblood wears ;

NS Team Up bit and plain nose band, no martingale or that. He wears boots when ridden.

Has done a few 80cm BS shows, some small XC schooling and small jump x schooling

He has also done a few unaffliated dressage comps with scores around 60%

More than enough for his first proper year of being ridden , hope to now in his 6th year really getting him going in the jumping.

Oh he wears a neck strap sometimes to as throws a buck when he feels like it.

I have my girl in an Albion comfort bridle with cavesson noseband and when we school, hack or compete in dressage she has a NS Verbindend and I ride in an Albion platinum royale dressage saddle. When my daughter takes her out jumping she has a NS loose ring Waterford and a GP Wintec saddle.

5yr old WBx in a loose ring French link snaffle with a cavesson noseband. Wears a standing martingale occasionally. We do unaffiliated dressage and showing, lots of hacking and schooling. We jump and hunt in the same tack too.

We've just just started NH as well as being happy hackers - with the ambition of being low level dressage, trec and endurance pleasure riders.

For ground work - rope halter and various lengths of rope. Plus my 'parsnip stick' (fake parelli carrot stick) :D

Ridden wise - made to measure Jeffries gp saddle and either rope halter or cavesson bridle with a mullen mouth snaffle, depending on what we are doing.

If I boot, I use equilubrium stretch and flex boots - but don't always boot (in fact, I rarely boot!)

He is a 13.3/14 hh New Forest pony.

Oh I also use a wh saddle, a stubben cord girth for madam's sensitive skin, westrop full knee brushing boots for roadwork and cavallo simple hoof boots.

14hh , 10year old coloured x welsh c gelding

Schooling- plastic french link snaffle and cavesson noseband , breastplate and native pony show saddle.

Hacking- metal French link snaffle or Dutch gag with cavesson bridle, breastplate and GFS genesis GP saddle.

Showing- jointed Pelham with hunter bridle and show saddle.

My mare used to be in a grackle with a Dutch gag (2 sets of reins) and a running martingale- SHOCK HORROR.

I have since changed her into a Waterford snaffle, plain noseband and standing martingale.

I keep her in the same tack for all disciplines (might add a flash for xc) but when I start to try dressage I will swap to a different bit

Pelham with waterford mouth piece (made it myself). Draw reins on the curb. Flash noseband, de-gogue & running martingale, attached to draw reins. That's for flatwork, I have to up it a bit for jumping or hacking. Horse is a 34yr old sec a competing at psg, downgraded from gp due to age.

Black Beauty wears: Amish EZ Fit western/endurance treeless saddle. Professional's Choice SMX AirRide pad, English leather bridle with noseband removed (big head), happy mouth dutch gag on middle ring and harness leather split reins. He has no brakes in anything less, I would rather ride in this (we ride western so he is not on a contact) and have brakes than be constantly hanging on his mouth in a snaffle. :)

Ginger wears: Westwood Platinum reiner, HAF reiner gold pad, harness leather headstall with d-ring sweet iron snaffle and rope reins OR dually halter.

Merrylegs wears: Freemax Western treeless or Amish made roper saddle, Professional's Choice SMX AirRide pad, Circle Y headstall with loose ring sweet iron snaffle and rope reins OR dually halter.

7yo 16.2. Loose ring snaffle with lozenge and cavesson noseband for hacking, dressage, sj, xc, endurance. (Martingale for SJ and XC)

Irish bred-
GP saddle, thick saddlecloth or thin one with half pad
Normal bridle with caverson noseband, no browband and a NS type lozenge snaffle.
Seems hammpy enough in above, but once I start doing more with him, might try tweaking tack.

TB
GP saddle, normal saddlecloth
Micklem bridle with sweet iron loose ring french link snaffle

ocasionally attempt matchy matchy!

VSD saddle (don't get one of these, they're rubbish for everything) and cavesson bridle with a myler comfort sweet iron snaffle. No boots unless jumping.

We do low level of everything and a lot of hacking. I don't compete - yet. 16.1 12 year old Gelderlander.

My youngster is hacking out and just starting to school, he is in a comfort crank bridle (loosely done up, just wanted the comfort padding), NS loose ring tranz angled lozenge and a five point breastplate (because I cant stand a neck strap moving around:mad:) with a running martingale.

Reg is a 16.2hh TB (ex-racer), at BE100 level, aiming for PC Open/ BE Novice next year. He also shows at county level RoR. He does everything in a happy mouth loose-ring lozenge snaffle, flash noseband, breast girth and neckstrap :D Collegiate jumping saddle for all bar showing, where he has a nice flat showing saddle.

Bee is a 15.2hh TB (ex-racer), aiming at BE90 next season with maybe some more. She's in a single-jointed eggbut snaffle, cavesson noseband and a breastgirth and neckstrap. Al rides her in a Albion Legend 5000 XC saddle.

Sprenger kk ultra loose ring snaffle all the time, hack, beach, school, jump, show. Jeffries IR bridle, working hunter saddle, premier equine air cooled boots :-)

The 15.2 Spanish chap has Sue Carson dressage saddle with plain snaffle bridle with Sprenger bit with a little roller in the middle, nothing else, no boots, griffin numnahs.

The 16hh ex racer has Wintec dressage saddle, plain snaffle bridle with neue schule team up bit. Over reach boots only and that's his lot.

Less is more i say!

ISH. 3 ring gag and grackle with 5 point breast plate and martingale, Albion k2 jump and a thin pad and fluffy. Boots a/r
Dressage he has a crank noseband bridle with a hanging cheek and a shires dressage saddle

Obviously change tack about for different disciplines but this is usual get up.
