this might sound a bit dumb but i have never owned a horse so i wouldnt really know. But when you go on holiday is there often a friend that will help you out and look after your horse for you?or if not on your own land would you just pay for it on full livery?
If not would you ever considering hireing someone for the duration of when you are away?...
if you could help me out i would really appreciated it, as i was thinking of trying to "advertise my services" if you will for during the summer holiday to raise money before off to university.

my lad id on full loan during the week so have no worries there, but like at the moment I can not ride for 2 months, I have a friend that is riding him at weekends for me. other wise he gets bored ad fizzy

Unfortuntely though, and being very honet here, I go on people I know and trust. sorry

A few horse owners I know pay me to look after their horses whilst they are on holiday, I have also seen people advertise in the local equestrian magazine.

You should advertise locally and be prepared to give references and other evidence of experience you have.

If its just for a couple of days I tend to ask my cousin. When we went away for 3 1/2 weeks over Christmas/New Year I used a girl who does mobile livery services. You pay her by the hour (£7.50) and she does whatever you ask of her. Its very handy to have someone reliable to look after your ned while you are away. I always make sure that I am contactable as well just in case.

thats fine, thats i need you to be honest because i dont want it to be a waste of my time. I can understand that you would do that, although i was wandering if the fact that i am currently doing a National Diploma in Horse Management help to persuade people any more. or would it once again rely upon going back to who you know?

I forgot to mention that, although I did not know the girl before I knew her I did ask around a lot and she can highly recommended. The other liveries at the yard knew you as well. You will need to get some recommendations. Do you help any friends out with their horses or work at a yard?

If someone had the training as in what you mentioned and maybe I met you and saw you handle etc and if you had references, then yes a worth while service. Problem with friends is that they sometimes let you down !!!!!

My horse has a holiday too, from riding that is. Friend on the yard does mine whilst i'm on holiday and visa vesa.
I always make sure I go away once theyr'e out 24/7, as I've got 2 horses and its a bit much to ask someone to muck them out aswell

yes i work at a re-schooling/livery yard, but the problems is is that it is 40miles away from where i live, (although my bf lives up there so thats ok) so i dont know any other yards, and i hate working there so i want to get away from there. I do have my friends at college though who can help to reccommend me.
So if i included where i currently work, and that im studying horse management on a flyer at local tackshops, would you look and consider that person?

(thank you for all your help by the way, really appreciated)

I pay a groom to come and do my horses when i go on hols (which isnt very often)

TBH the ND wouldnt do anything for me am afraid becaue I know some complete clueless people who have completed one (and I am in no way implying you are clueless!) Personally if I was looking for someone to do that for me, would look at references, and experience working on yards. Hands on experience in my opinion far outweighs "paper" quals.

good luck with it though!

thank you for your honesty, i can understand why you would want experience, afterall i understand how valuble horses are to there owners.
and i know what you mean about the clueless people, so no offence taken.
i know i would get a good reference from where i am now, and from my college. although that is only two, so would that be considered enough?

Well thats good, fantastic you have some experience behind you too, that would more than likely sway it more for me. Getting your name known, doing odd jobs at various yards, helping out where poss if you have spare time, and generally showing you are reliable and capable, aswell ass getting more contacts would be the way forward I feel. Be also good fun getting experience in different yards! General common sense is something I find is lacking alot, but from what you have said here, you seem to be good in that department, so just getting out and showing people, and building a good rep would be the main thing I feel

It will be hard work, bt worth it I think!

its even more difficult as i dont have my own horse to go out competiting and get these contacts i need. but thank you very much for your encouragement. Thats another reason i wanna do this, is so i can get those contacts, and also keep in practice with horses before going off to do my equine training degree.

Thank you all

Pickles on working livery so is exercised anyway then he is usually on full livery (monday-friday) we just may for the weekend to be on full livery as well
