I am lorry hunting at the moment and whilst the majority of boxes are vasty overpriced, even the reasonable ones dont appear to be selling anywhere incuding ebay cheapies the lot, are we now slowing down and able to get something decent for our money or am I being far too optimistic?

The 3.5 tonne ones (the genuine ones that is) are holding their value pretty well, but the bigger the truck the easier to buy atm. I got a great deal back in August on a 10t one, and the seller said I was the first to actually show up, think he said it had been up for 2 weeks. Put it this way, you can afford to be picky now, and don't be afraid of haggling either, or walking away and ringing back a week/fortnight later....

in a word no they are not selling

trying to sell mine for ages over halved the price and it still won't shift, half of it is getting people to come out they seem to be scared off by the fact mine is an A reg so quite old, doesn't seem to matter its more reliable than the R reg on our yard! LOL

I'm not alone though and I know lots are in the same position as me, definietly a buyers market at the moment.

hmm I have even seriously considered going for my HGV licence at £1k, as HGV's are selling for peanuts!!! - I have my bus licence anyway so the size wouldnt bother me, food for thought tho.

I have two really nice lorries I am hoping to look at, but yes I am glad I am not selling an older one. My last was A reg and she was fab but as it is due to insurance payout I can afford to be a bit more picky and get something slightly newer but only around H, J, K, the newer ones are still silly prices!!

We just sold our lorry, it had been on the market for around 3 months but we dramatically dropped the price and sold it for 4k less than what we were originally asking. We really had to get rid of it though so weren't too bothered that it sold for less.

Woah im amazed you havnt found anything unless you are looking for something with a high specification? You could have bought our lorry nearly 3 times over with your budget!

not looking for anything special in the living department but not years old and not enormous to drive and with a very good horse area - most are either miles away or horse areas look poor or are really old chassis.

We were looking for one around September time, looked in the region of 13K - 23K which I think is reasonable. My sister and I looked at loads and there was not much to choose in the condition of them from the lower end of our budget to the higher end. We came to the conclusion, and sad as it sounds you dont get much for 20K!! We had picture after picture emailed before we set off to view, and yes they look fab on the pictures, but in real life they were so so rough, not been cared for, dirty, full of dog hair, mechanically unsound, leaky roofs. rusted to hell, over weight, deep scratches down the side. We did in the end find a very nice coach built one in very clean condition. Although its a bit bigger than we wanted and its a tight squeeze to get it in our drive! We decided to buy it any way because of its condition, we will proberbly let it see us through this hunting season and sell in the spring and take longer to look for one.

friend has just bought a cracking 5T lorry...

4.5k with 12 mths plate and 6mths tax....

keep looking you'll get a decent bargain soon....

Don't do trailers....used to but for the miles we do we want lorries, locally dont mind trailers at all, but if away all the time lorries with living are a must.

Also when you have a grandma of 74, a large sloppy dribbly labrador and 9 year old child in tow, must have living to occupy them and keep them warm!!

am now considering the possibility that i'm on IU as what i've suggested seems to have been by-passed..

oh well, [****] happens..................

Not on Ui JM07 - I just wish when people were selling lorries they took as much notice of the horse area, floor, ramp and chassis as they do tarting up the living which you will do little more than have a cup of tea in.

Any suggestions welcome!!

I've just ordered mine, spent a good month going to see different ones, most were massively over priced. For the same money I have ordered a new conversion plus get the luxury of getting exactly what I want.

I couldn't recommend the builder enough, I am really quite sad and want to go up and take photos as she takes shape etc and he seems fine with it all.

Also managed to go see a few other builders and to anyone planning on getting one made, be very careful. Seen a few big money wagons with major build errors that have cost thousands to put right.
