I have a girl who is supposed to ride my horse in the week. I pay her to do this.

Not only has she not ridden this week at all, but dispite saying she would be up last night, wasnt, leaving my (skinny) tb unfed, unwatered, unhayed and unrugged.

Annoyed is an understatement!

Why do we do it?!

That's a bit off!! Ok, so she doesn't ride him so she doesn't get paid, but surely she could have just text you or something to say she couldn't get to him.
I think some needs to having a few stern words.
 
I dont know she is not answering her phone! I pay her to help me, not cause me additional stress! I have liveries to do that!
 
Sack her off and find someone more reliable - unless of course you find out that she had a terrible accident or something along those lines (hoping this isnt the case of course!)
 
I was a sharer (now have the horse on full loan) and I hope the owner of the horse doesn't feel the same way about me! She's told me that she thinks I'm perfect for the horse and readily admits I'm a better rider than her as the horse is quite spooky and she falls off her quite a lot, whereas I can sit to her. And everyone seems to think she's calmed down since I got her, but I feel quilty too cos I don't want the owner to think that I've done better with Belle than she had when she rode her. Argh!
 
Is she aware that it's her responsibility to put the horse to bed on the days she rides? Or would she assume that you'd be up anyway?

Also, do you have another contact number for her or a relation? If someone had left the horse unfed, unrugged etc. and now was uncontactable then I'd be concerned for their whereabouts to be quite frank. Perhaps I'm too naive in thinking that if someone has a responsibility to do the horse then they will and if they don't maybe check they're OK?

The deal is that she rides in the evenings, he is mucked out but she puts his hay/feed in and rugs him.

She has my number, as well as my boyfiends, and cannot be that in trouble as has managed to update her facebook status with happy things three times since 7pm yesterday evening!
 
I used to have a wonderful sharer, I could totally rely on her, she rode wonderfully and loved my horse as much as I do, then I relocated due to work commitments and lost her. I looked for another and took on a girl who was supposed to ride every other day and do the stable chores in return for the ride, so no money changing hands. She has been the most unreliable person I have ever come across. She doesn't ride on her allotted days, rides when she feels like it, ignores most of the chores, didn't turn up for 3 weeks etc etc. The final straw for me came one week when she promised faithfully to do my horse one night (after not doing anything for weeks) so I could have a night off (being fairly pregnant getting a night off is bliss to me). I popped up the yard to pay for my hay that had been delivered that day and found she hadn't even turned up. Had I not gone up my horse would have been left in his field alone all night with no feed, rug or hay. I now have to have an uncomfortable conversation with her about how I need someone reliable and it's not her....
 
I'd be cross if I was the OP but at the same time threads like this and an earlier one put me right off being a sharer again.
 
Oooh I'd be livid too!

As a former sharer, even if I couldn't ride I would have gone down to feed etc or called to make arrangements if there was a problem.

Sack her off and I'll come and ride your horse!

I sort of share, I pay to ride the YO's horses where I go and we get on well, I get lots of opportunities, I meet lots of people and new horses and if I ever want to compete then I pay the fees and part petrol which is very fair! If this person is not working out then I'd be saying goodbyes, however, don't give up on sharers/loaners as there are some very genuine hardworking people out there craving a chance like this and its bad sharers that give the rest a bad name.
 
She is not a sharer, I pay her to help me out and ride my horse, as well as paying her BD membership, petrol and driving her to shows, entry fees, etc!

She is PAID to ride my horse!
 
Sack her and instead find someone who is willing to ride your horse and pay you for the privilege!
If I was in your shoes then I would not be keeping this person on at all. You need someone who is reliable especially when it comes to horses and animals in general. We all need peace of mind that the person we are ensuring our animals wellbeing and safety to when we are not there are doing exactly that!
 
Being paid to ride, isn't that everyones dream job?!
So you would at least call or text to say you weren't gonna be up, that's just out of order!!
 
Simple - get rid of her! Your horses, your choice - there are reliable people out there, honestly - I am a loaner and treat the horse like he is mine, I adore him and his owner lets me treat him like mine in return.

To leave your horse unfed and un-rugged is, as far as I'm concerned, unforgiveable and I wouldn't want her anywhere near my horses after that!
 
I'd get rid. I wouldn't expect a sharer to leave my horse uncared for let alone when she's been employed to do it. It would need to be a very good reason e.g been in an accident, hurt etc. as to why she wasn't there.
 
QR--- ahahahahahah sorry but really get rid of this person, unless she has been hit by a bus and is in intensive care then there is absolutelty no excuse...... she is your employee, and obviously isnt doing the job she is paid for........... now where do you live so I can have her job!!!!

Sack her. Have you tried the local pony club as some youngsters are wanting to go onto bigger horses but cann't afford it and it would give them experience and maybe able to compete your horse for you
