I have whiplash, I was involved in a rear end shunt and now I have whiplash. My beloved horse has had to go into full livery, I cant drive up to see him and am so frustrated. I really miss him.

Anybody know how long the pain and stiffness last for? I am going demented.
 
Sorry to hear about your accident. But make sure you claim for your injuries and to cover the full livery. I was in a bad rear end shunt a few yrs back, car was a complete write off.
I had whiplash, a trapped nerve in my shoulder (making it impossible to lift more than a fork to feed myself) and siatica, so bending was agony. Its took a couple of months to get back to normal.
I've also had a plain whiplash accident, and that still took the best part of a month before I wasnt getting any twinges
I had to see a dr, on behalf of the insurance people, to be examined and explain my injuries and got a payout.
I'm not one for claiming the unnessisary, but if you are having more expenditures (full livery) due to your injury you are right to get compensation
I hope you get better soon, and get back to your horse, for some neddytherapy : )
 
Thanks scallywags, your injuries sound so painful. I am sorry.

So a plain whiplash injury takes about a month to recover. That is gonna feel like years.

I am not one to claim either, but I shall be claiming for physio and livery. Given the choice I would rather look after my horse myself, but I could not do him properly.

Am needing lots of neddytherapy (I like that, neddytherapy)
 
If your having real problems, I'd get down the dr's, for a foam neckbrace, so you can let your ligaments rest and heal, without the risk of you forgetting and turning, making the damage worse.
The time will pass quicker than you think, as you'll notice small improvements in your range on movement / pain, youve just got to take it steady, not easy when your an active person, I know.

You are so right, its not easy taking it easy when being an active outdoors type of person. Its very frustrating.

Thank you for your advice, will see what GP recommends regarding the collar, have a long scarf around my neck at the moment.
 
I've got mild whiplash from bouncing on my head when falling downhill mountain biking. It didn't manifest itself immediately but about 2 weeks later I started getting pains down my arm. Accunpuncture helped but often the effect of any treatment isn't immediate. Sorry to say it can last a lot longer than a month and gentle stretching might help too. Hope you feel better soon.
 
I had a rear end shunt accident too.My recovery was a long slow one.I was off work for over 5 months and unable to cook,clean or even wash my hair without help for at least a couple of those months. now over 2 years down the line I still suffer problems with my neck and my back.My whiplash was of the spine as well as the neck though.
 
OMG longer than a month? must have been very painful not to mention frustrating for you both.

I am going to keep doing gentle exercises, follow doctor's orders and keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you everybody, am expecting to be in pain for about another couple of weeks then.
 
2 years on and i am still in pain, i have no end of treatment with no joy what so ever. mine is in my neck and lower back. i am unable to lift anything heavy, some days it hurts so much to walk, i cant sleep at night due to the pain i am in. i am back to see a different doc in dec so i am sure it will be more tests
