Earlier this year we had to have our beloved 17yr old terrier put to sleep and now are starting to look for a whippet bitch puppy. I wanted to post on here because this forum has always been ridiculously helpful to me, and also the classifieds out there at the moment seem full of so many breeders, I wouldn’t know where to start.
We have had sighthounds in the past and regularly have a friends lurcher to stay, so we are happy that we know what we are taking on in terms of traits and characteristics etc. We have a corgi cross cairn terrier already.
All our animals have only ever been acquired through recommendation, hence this post. If you can recommend a lovely breeder of show line whippets, please do drop me a line. Seeing mum and exceptional temperament is our only concrete prerequisite. We are in no rush.
We are in Cornwall but I’ll travel anywhere to view/meet.

Fabforester, they are probably far too far away from you but do Google Selinko Whippets. You will just die of the gorgeousness of the puppy pictures they have up at the moment.
These people are huge friends of mine but are in Cambridgeshire. We go back many many moons.
I used to have and breed whippets and they came to live near and it set them going. They were far more into breeding and showing than me and their best dog won the group at Crufts one year.
Whippets are wonderful, mine were really easy to train and obedient easier than any lurcher.
These people may even know a breeder nearer to you.

Yes we have Levrier! She was called Fern at home. It was all very exciting and I have got it on tape from the days when you recorded like that from the tv!

If Selinko don’t have any puppies (although it sounds like they may have!) also try Shalfleet - used to be Barbara Wilton-Clark and is now her daughter Miss J Wilton-Clark - they always had some very nice stuff!

Forever Hounds trust often have whippet puppies in, they're a South and South West based rescue group.

Forever Hounds used to be Greyhound Rescue West of England didn’t they? When I volunteered for them they were a national charity who only dealt with rescue/re-homed greyhounds off the track and the occasional lurcher, they really have changed if they are taking on whippets as well now! Not saying that’s wrong in any way of course, I was just surprised to read it ?

That's the one - they take in any sighthound or sighthound x now, we got our deaf whippet from there 4 years ago and I know 2 people who've had whippet pups from them in different years - maybe it's just our local centre ?

We have had 2 whippets from a breeder in Chippenham, Wiltshire so not too far from you.

the dog is now 6yrs old and the bitch only 5 months old, they are both stunning to look at, have beautiful temperaments and have been easy to train.
I can send you the breeders details if you like, I don’t think she advertises much as they tend to go by word of mouth.

Yes that would be very kind thank you. I’m keen to have a chat with a few, thanks.

A good friend of mine breeds gorgeous whippets (I think she's got another litter on the way shortly) but we're in Central Scotland so might be a wee bitty too far for you to travel.... I can send you her contact details if you want? Let me know x
