Whippets

They are fab, very loving and loyal and love to cuddle up in front of the fire. I had two and would definately have another one. The only thing you have to watch is that they don't injure themselves by trying to get under fences to quickly or getting tangled up in wire.

I had two - they are wonderful dogs to have around. They are clean around the house, quiet, easy to live with, get on well with other dogs, and make fab hot water bottles

The only reason I dont have them now is because I moved onto rescue greyhounds (I feel sorry for them

) - although Cala posted a pic recently which seriously made me consider getting another whippet too

As the other poster has said, they will try and squeeze under fences and things so might damage themselves doing so - and of course they are sighthounds, so they WILL chase anything

My little runt-of-a-litter whippet's favourite victim was a big. macho Rottweiler

To the OP...can not recommend them highly enough as pets...almost everyone on here loves whippets and greyhounds

We got a whippet puppet last year. We'd never had a dog before and he is such a gem, I am now a complete dog convert!! I'd describe him as a racehorse outside with the brain of a gnat and a cat indoors. I've never known a creature sleep so much!!! He's really affectionate and was pretty easy to train (IMHO as I've never had a dog before!) Get one, get one!

We have a whippet and a rescue whippet x greyhound - they are fab dogs - great hot water bottles and loving loyal companions. We are hoping to have a litter from our little bitch who has just come into season (and I do have a waiting list of people who want puppies and am not breeding unneccesarily

I have one, shes 2 in November.

Shes the most loyal and loving dog ever. But shes also totally crazy when she wants to be
grin.gif
Shes happy to just sleep all day on the sofa and in my bed at night! Loves going for walks but isnt fussed if she dosent get one sometimes as shes happy sleeping too. Easy to handle, great with kids, eats everything going (shes a proper dustbin) and is gorgeous to go with it!!

I have two, i adore them. My whole familiy are whippet mad

They are quiet as lambs indoors and crazy racing killing machines outside.

Like others have said, they can be prone to skin tears when in full flight after something if they have to go through a hedge, however, there are different 'coats' - the more delicate coats tear easily but the slightly harsher coats are tougher.

I'm having my first litter in December from my 2 year old - very excited to have some whippet pups

I have a whippet who has just turned 1, I'd always had lurchers before, but desperately wanted a whippet.
He's a very affectionate little thing, completely stupid, would love to sleep under the duvet all day if I let him! Rubbish around horses, great with other dogs, but gets a bit nervy around strangers.
I would def recommend one, but only if you have a big field to let them sprint around! Most of the time, he's asleep on the sofa though.

I am looking for a blue whippet puppy around sept time so if anyone knows of any litters due please ley me know.

i have a whippet, but i have to say she is rather naughty but has a great character. She has spend a lot of time at the vets though, flint, barbed wire and whippets don't go well together! she is also a very good theif, she can jump onto worksurface and boiler to get bread/ catfood!

i have two whippet in my sig...some people may think that these little dogs are weak and get injured all the time ..they dont...my two are as bold as anything, they dont mind loud noises they sleep through fireworks, they love the water, they will go on alday, very quick to learn, useless at being a guard dog and love to chase anything that moves but with training can be kept under control...for abit that is..they just love to free run when possible

love to curl up on a comfy sofa, wash ya feet, come back clean after being in the mud, dont really smell unless they have rolled in fox poo and they dont really moult that much...but do need a coat when the weather gets cold

and some are gannets..will steal any food unattened

i know of a litter in exmoor the dam is the sister of one of mine and there will be a litter born in 8-9wks time

I have a whippet and she is a wonderful little dog. She sleeps all day in the sunniest spot that she can find and often with my old Burmese cat lying right on top of her. She is great with our 3 cats but she does hate next door's cat with a vengeance and chases it out of our garden several times a day with her hackles raised.

She is intelligent but prone to memory lapses when she wants! She loves her food and I have to watch her weight. She put on a little weight recently and I couldn't understand why until one of our builders confessed to giving her a bit of his sandwich every lunchtime because she "looked hungry"!
