they come off when i clip and when i'm having a proper trim (then any 'hairyness' is removed, ears, feathers, beards etc) before shows in the summer - but im not religious about it.

I trim both of mine, just so it tidies them up but they still have some - cant stand it when they are real long!

Yea that sounds familiar actually. Mine have theres off! Originally I left them on, but Ive slowly been brainwashed into having immaculately profiled horses!

oooh i think its cruel to cut any whiskers u wouldnt cut a cats whiskers off just to make them look "good" would you?? horses use them to sense things just like cats do

I leave them on, they are there for a reason.Mind you mine are all hairy beasties and are rarely trimmed up.

Mmm i'm sort of inbetween. I trim them so they are around an inch and a half long?

I only cut them on the horses who are shown, I feel bad but it doesn't seem to bother them and they're turned out at night during the summer. I don't overtrim them like some of the horses you see in the show ring, I don't trim the inside of their ears or the whiskers around their eyes although I have had to shorten one or two of their eye whiskers as they were starting to curl towards the eye and were irritating it. Feathers and beard are also off, it makes such a difference to their profile!!

What about moustaches? There used to be a horse at the stables where I learned to ride who sported a luxuriant, curly moustache. I think it was a mare too - most unfeminine!

I only trim a little off whiskers and any bits of ear hair which overhang the margin of the ear. It has never ocurred to me to take off eye whiskers as it doesn't seem right somehow.

I clip legs, ears etc but I leave the whiskers on becasue my boys live out. I was watching one of them eating his dinner this evening and it is amazing how much they use their whiskers and that wibbly bit of muzzle to find dropped food. Bailey's last owner cut his eyelashes off which I didn't like.
