Can anyone tell me why they white boxers are always cheaper and not KC registered? No real reason I have just seen this in a few adds and was wondering......

They can be deaf if they have no markings on th ehead, however if they have an ear or eye patch they can usually hear. The hearing cells in the ears are connected to the coloured pigment.
They do not meet kennel club standards and are seen as an undesirable trait. Hence you can often get a very well bred one cheap from a good breeder.
You should never breed from a white boxer.
Tyhere are often a few available from Boxer rescue.

Deaf
How sad is that. Are they ok if they are deaf? (obviously they cannot hear!) but can they have normal pet lifestyles?

More or less, slightly more tricky to manage them of course.
Breeder who is a family friend had a deaf white dane, said she was the best dog he had ever bred or owned,shame she was deaf and white!
She coped just fine and had a great life, perfectly well behaved as long as she was loking at you.

It is just not a colour recognised by the KC. Morgan's mum was a white boxer, and she was not deaf.

When i bought my red and white boxer from her breeders they said that they regularly had people calling specifically for white boxers and that they commanded fairly high prices compared with a few years ago when they were heavily discounted. This was 2 years ago now mind you so the prices may have dropped for them again...

I am always thinking of getting a puppy and would love a boxer as I have had "experience" of them before (used to walk dogs for pocket moneymany moons ago)
At the moment though I have a wonderfull aged cat who would not appreciate a new critter in the house and so until he has met his demise, which I am NOT wishing soon, we will be a puppy free house

Kennel club standard states no more than a 3rd of the body should be white. So thats the main reason they are cheap. Some are deaf although i know a few that are pure white and not deaf or blind.

I can also imagine that they look a state coming back from the yard! easpecially if they cannot hear you yelling at them to get out of the muck heap. It would probably be the only way I could convince OH to get a boxer as the £700+ price tag would probably put him off!

i've known a few that are pure white and not deaf. deafness is not the only thing they're prone to with being white though - they also have a higher percentage of other congenital defects, gut problems etc than the solid coloured ones. personally i'm a red and white fan (dont do white coloured any animals - red hides the dirt much better!)

It would match Bert though and since getting him I have given up all ideas of clean animals!

depends on the dog. my last boxer was quite happy being left from 8.45 till 3.30 while we were at school - she just slept. the current one is a terrorist and destroys the house so although we leave her from 8.45 till 5.15 she has a dog walker come in at lunchtime and keep her amused for a couple of hours - she seems to cope ok with this. it's not ideal, but circumstances change and everyone now works fulltime.

As I said I am not in the market for a puppy a the moment but will be in a couple of years i guess (poor puddicat is 14) but I am already giving thought and looking into which breed would be suitable LOL You can never be too prepared for these things!

she is so gorgeous - reminds me of my current one - i do love the red and white ones - luckily in my job i'm known as the boxer lover and the receptionists book all of them in with me, so i get to see loads of them! got a little litter at the moment who i helped whelp and are now 2wks old - they're so adorable!

they're just starting to look like boxers now instead of generic puppies (all puppies look the same lol!) - will see them again at 5wks for their next check - they've already got their individual characters though bless em.

I have a brindle dog with a little white around the edges. He is a strange dog! You are never quite sure what (if anything?) is going through his brain (if he has one that is!). He is a lovely faithful hound who mixes well with our other dogs and my kids and all their friends.

boxers dont have brains - well known fact! empty hole where the brain should have been judging by the sound it makes when mine wallops it against things without even noticing!

My uncle had a white Boxer, which had a brown eye patch. The dog was perfectly healthy, not deaf, and lived to the grand old age of 14. Thing is, the dog came from a breeding of his mother's Champion Boxer, so I suppose some good genetics helped bolster the dog's overall health. Not only are they usually prone to deafness, but a lot of white Boxers have terrible skin allergies as well.
If we're talking Boxers, I must post pictures of my friend's dog, Bessie, who lives in Gloucs. I can't tell you how close I've come to dognapping this gorgeous girl on my trips back to Blighty!

Ah thanks for all the pictures they are all such lovely dogs.
I am definitely leaning towards the boxer as my choice of dog......just need to convince OH that a Collie is NOT a good idea.......
He does not seem to understand that a collie is a working dog and not the easiest animal to have off lead in a field whilst hacking...........

I would suggest that a boxer is not an ideal 'first dag'.
They can be a handful and very wilful. They are also very good at 'not understanding' what you want them to do.
It's a bit like having a naughty toddler around alot of the time. They also like 'gardening' and are very good at landscaping (if you want craters that is) I know of loads that regularly dig up plants and bring them to their owners.
If you want a dog that is easy to have loose around the horses you won't beat a lab.

sadly i am very allergic to labs,retrievers and gsd's
I have had a few dogs before but never with OH since we moved in together 7yrs ago.
I have owned GSD, retriever, st bernard and springers before and lived with but not owned a boxer.
If they are not good lose around horses though that would be a real problem

If you can manage a springer, im sure you will absolutely fine with a boxer. Im on my 2nd boxer now and haven't had any 'training' problems with them what so ever. Lucy is fine around my horses, she respects them and gives them space. Lucy is on the yard all day with me and is my little shadow, i can honestly say hand on heart she is never naughty..she is extremely energetic and is the epitome of a coiled spring the majority of time!! LOL!!
The only thing she does do is warn me if anyone drives into the yard by barking her head off, but i see this as a good thing for security reasons!!

i wouldn't let mine loose around the horses - she's a liability. got herself trodden on the 1st time i took her down there. walks in between his legs etc. she's also not to be trusted with sheep etc.
