I've seen a few pictures of thoroughbreds wearing white bridles and I think they look lovely. Is it for some sort of showing? I'd love to get Serenity one, but want to make sure I'm getting one for the right thing!

Frisians are sometimes presented in white bridles for breed specific showing. White bridles are fairly common in racing in the US because they go with any colour silk - less common here. Arabs in hand are sometimes shown in a white headcollar - but it appears more common in the US than here.

What do you want a white bridle for?

Zilco endurance bridles come in white if you just want a white bridle to use everyday. I'm sure that other makes of endurance bridle (eg Plas Equestrian) come in white too.

I just think it looks lovely :) maybe for in-hand showing, but wasn't sure if it was correct over here or a TB, maybe the pictures I saw were from the US

Does it look unusual/showy/shiny/noticeable? Then of course it's not correct! Showing is all about being boring/conventional/"workmanlike" and brown, always brown.....

They are certainly not correct for showing in the UK, nor for Dressage. They are not expressly prohibited for BS, but I've not ever seen one used. Any colour not black or brown is prohibited in Pony Club. They are permitted - and probably used - in endurance.

If you just want one to look pretty for every day - its your horse and your taste. My daughter had a pink bridle when she was 6. (Which is still in the tack room...) But if you wanted to actually compete in it then you are going to get some funny looks at the very least I'm afraid.

White bridles are generally webbing, as in the Zilco one shown above. They are used in endurance, racing & harness racing as they are very light.

He he he, I would :-) But then I am generally riding in something like this....

That looks amazing. Really beautiful.

I am already laughed at about his dressage horse look with white boots and white numnah but otherwise you can't see him against a dark surface in videos. I think he would carry off the white bridle beautifully...

Just Google "Baroque tack", there is a site in Holland that supplies all sorts of lovely traditional Portuguese tack (which is what these bridles are), including breastplates, stirrups, etc.

Friesian's wear them at grading, stallion shows etc.

If your going for the zilco/endurance look you can get away with any colours you like.

I have a green zilco, fab bridles, I hardly ever use it mind you! Maybe some day we try a go at endurance :)

Maybe not for showing but they're great for everyday riding and I have found mine perfect in winter and on the beach! A couple of my ex racers over the years have come with various colour zilco bridles and I often use them. Yeah lots of people have a good laugh about them but I don't take it to heart. If they're just laughing at my bridle then I see it as things are going well!

Yuck! Not my taste personally but the racing trainer I work for uses them for daily riding. They are hassle free, easy to care for and cheap. I think they can even be chucked in the washing machine.
Smart leather for me any time!

I like them (but I possibly have questionable taste as I also have everything in Newmarket tan :p) and I have a blue and yellow plas bridle for one of the ponies. I love the green bridle on Alainax's horse and have loved some of the combinations I've seen out on endurance rides-I wish I could get a pale orange one for my horse!

I also have baroque bridles as have a lusitano. I find the traditional British look a bit dull and stuffy tbh and don't really understand why the turnout rules are so old fashioned but each to their own.

I don't mind colours synthetic tack for every day use as it's just for home and it's easy to keep clean. Do I actually own any coloured synthetic tack? Do I heck!

The boss bought a white bridle once. We tried it on a horse and thankfully she didn't like the look of it on so it just got used in the yard and not at the races.

Alot of all weather flat horses wear synthetic bridles as getting the fibre/silica sand out of leather is a nightmare!

This is true! Bloody stuff. Sadly we use leather to race... and I'm chief racing kit cleaner 😫

White bridles are hideous, but zilco tack is super practical. I have a (hideous) red zilco bridle I use for long distance / TREC / hacking / swimming stuff.

The baroque bridle is a thing of beauty. But that could just be the head it's on ;)
