Hi all,

Please can someone confirm for me, are white gloves now required or still just preferred?

I am doing our first un af prelim in two weeks and another livery told me today that white gloves are now a must. She has recently done some scribing and the judge made comments along the lines of the rules have been changed for a long time, you shouldn't be in dark gloves.

I have had a bit of a google and i can't find anything up to date, just a few threads from h+h stating that they are preferred. The BD PDF i downloaded just said gloves should be worn.

If anyone knew for sure I would be very grateful!

Thanks

As you say, BD rules say 'gloves are to be worn' - that is all, no mention of colour.

Plus if you are competing unaffiliated, then unless it is specifically stated that you are riding under BD rules or that gloves have to be worn, then you are under no obligation to even wear them I would say (though I would!).

I wear cream coloured ones for BD.

I thought BD gave up on the white glove rule at the lower levels so I would have thought you'll be ok unaffiliated .
Someone who does more dressage might be post and correct me if have got that wrong .

The wording used to be that light colours were "strongly preferred" but just comparing online the 2013 and 2014 rules it does seem to have changed to say gloves should be worn.

Strongly preferred always seemed a cop out to me and just caused confusion. . Rulesbooks should either say something is allowed or not rather than trying to use disapproval while stopping short of committing.

I have been told off for not wearing gloves, and not wearing white gloves, at intro level unaff! Although not marked down, it's always been a note at the bottom of the sheet.

Thanks very much for that.

I only have dark gloves and just wanted to check. I'd rather not get white gloves at the moment... Money is a but tight this month so probably shouldn't really be going out at all! ;)

It doesn't say that it is run under bd rules... The schedule is on a PDF... The bottom of which says, 'please read rules'... But they aren't on the schedule or the RC web page... Grrr! I'll email the secretary to ask where they are.

Thanks all.

Neither BD nor RC rules require you to wear white gloves. I triple checked this after they had finished changing their minds as wearing white gloves with tweed (which I usually wear) is just downright incorrect. I did buy a caramel colour at the time of the original rule change just in case but no worries now.

I remember this kerfuffle...first you didn't need light gloves, and then you did, and then you didn't...I ended up buying a pair of champagne ones to wear with a brown tweed, and have never had a comment.

Interesting; I do have those really cheapie cotton thin white gloves with pimples but because I wore my hacking jacket instead of black one this weekend I didn't think about gloves and just wore my black ones which live with my hat. No comment but was fairly informal at the venue.
