Hi!
I'd love to see everyone's before and after photos complete with their grooming regime- especially to get show ready.

I have a show next Sunday with a dapple grey mare, who has such a manky tail! The photo I've got is after 4 washes of quick silver shampoo, blue washing up liquid AND treseme. I just can't seem to shift the stains at the bottom!

After wash:

So, I'd love to see what other people do and the results- and then maybe I can give it a go!

Thanks all! :D

My lad has an almost translucent tail when it is clean. I wash with normal green fairy liquid, leave it in for 5 mins then wash it out. Put in whichever blue grey horse shampoo I have kicking about, leave that in for 5mins then wash it out and replace with conditioner.

I honestly wish my mares tail was this simple! I feel like I'm over complicating things. But what I'm doing is just not working 😩

Mare's tails are always mankier. Once stained with pee then you either need to chop it off and let it regrow and keep it all wrapped up in a bag until it grows out to prevent further staining.

This is Gray's when clean. When dirty it is a proper dark brown ...

I do love that horse EKW!

I think her tail looks good OP. As far as I know once it's stained it's stained and there's nothing you can do but try and keep the growing down bits clean.

Darn it. I'll just have to keep trying as much as I can until it grows out. That's disappointing haha.

I tried this a few times on my greys tail, wash with fairy then get either net Curtain whitener or bleach and mix it up in a bucket with hot water . Place stool or chair behind horse at such height tail will be in bucket dunk the tail in but below dock and soak for for five minutes.

Rinse really well then wash with touch of silver old people shampoo and then condition I usually use about a bottle of conditioner per tail.

This of course only works if your horse doesn't mind standing still mine don't .

I feel your pain. I also have a grey mare with tail issues - but we are winning! She is only just five, so for three years before she was broken in her tail was just left to do it's thing, it got really stained and I hate it. Same thing, no matter what I washed it in (and I've tried everything!), there were some bits that were never gong to come clean.

Slowly the manky bits are growing out and now I wash and condition it every weekend. I only bag it if I'm competing, but the weekly washing is keeping it clean and the conditioner keeps it in good condition and stops the dirt (and other stuff) staining.

My 3yo has an naturally yellow tinge tail, it annoys me so much!

It goes slightly lighter but not much!

I can get my other boys tail quite light, I use purple shampoo! But he has some cute but annoying flecks on his neck and everyone always asks why I haven't got rid of those stains!

Vetrolin white and brite is the best blue shampoo I've ever used and pretty much tried them all! Wash tail regularly so it doesn't get too dirty but I do have a grey mare with a manky backside. This shampoo will take the tail from brown to white'ish in a quick wash and super bright with a second wash! Can also turn it a slight blue tinge if I am not careful but prefer that to yellow, lol :-).
