Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed over the last month and a half that white hairs have been appearing on my bay horses coat. None of them are under the saddle/ tack area or have been from an injury site. He looks and acts fit and healthy. His coat is very shiny! At first it was just one and now there are lots more popping up! The white hairs have grown much longer than the rest of the coat which is strange!

I can’t attach photos at the moment as the photos are too large. Has anyone ever seen these white hairs under these circumstances before? Thank you!

I had an ID gelding, bright bay, who got white hairs through his coat in the summer. Started around his stifle then spread outwards. Almost like a faint roaning.

How old is he?

My bay got a very strange coat last winter lots of long white hair he didn't shed properly in spring either so I had him tested for cushings his now on half a prascend.

His always had grey hair in his mane and tail but not really on his body.

He’s 14. I’ve been doing my own research and I believe it may be copper deficiency as I’ve noticed some of his coat is sometimes fluffy. I’ll try him on a copper supplement to see if it improves!
Thanks everyone!

My friends bay is doing the same thing. All over the body and not any longer than his normal coat though. He's 5 so he'd hardly start greying out now, it does look like he's trying to go roan. Sorry can't be amy help but interested if anyone else can!

Was he in good health last winter? Was he clipped, and if so, did his coat look at all patchy?
