so whats the secret?! i very rarely wear white jods for the very reason that i dont want the whole world seeing what i m wearing underneath them lol

so apart from wearing nothing or a thong, anything else i can wear? i never see anyone else with this trouble

Buy decent jods that aren't paper thin!

I normally wear white hipsters or shorts underneath and don't have any problems. Don't like thongs at all!

You could try some of those riding boxer style things or just give up and wear nude/white coloured knickers....
Thong or nothing is a viable option but really, cream/beige are far easier!

Dunno - I don't own any white jodhs! BUT I can thoroughly recommend knickers from Sporty Secrets. They're boxer short type and soooooo comfy. They come in 2 sizes 6-12 and 16-20 and look ever so tiny when you get them out the box, but the stretch like nobody's business! Not that cheap for a single pair of knickers £8, but well, well worth every penny. Here's the link Sporty Secrets

Having had some serious bum cheek chaffing wearing a thong out hunting to avoid a VPL ( Yes i ought to have known better) I invested in some mountain horse seamless knickers they are the biggest pants ever but sooooo comfy and not noticeable under any jods!

I wear Pikeur breeches and you could wear red pants and no one would know LOL!

People that wear thongs to ride in are just mad! And they live with a ridiculous notion that they are less noticeable - errrr no they are not - would prefer to see a VPL with normal pants than a thong one ANY day!

thanks for the suggestions!! must more helpful than last time i did a similar post on a different forum and the general view was to wear a thong or nothing, neither which sound very appealing to me!

think my white jods must be cheap crap as i might as well be wearing my pants on the outside, thats how visible my current jods make them lol! definately going to try and buy some new ones, must say i like the sound of your weezy, you'd never get away with red pants in mine!

I love my pikuer breeches have just invested in some very nice denim ones although no idea when i will wear them as to good for round the yard. They were a bit of an impulse by as they were reduced from ridiculously expensive to just very expensive.

no wonder i m struggling, i only paid about £20 for mine, the pikeur ones sound lovely and clearly do the job but their way out of my budget! maybe one day! lol

Naff photo and it is 2 years old (I resemble a supermodel now

) but these are my Pikeurs - yes they were expensive, but worth every penny - they wash amazingly well and are VERY comfy!

PS Cinders - more often than not I ride commando, but for some reason I could never do that competing - actually I think I know why, it stems back to the bit in Jilly Coopers Riders and the incident of Fenella and her splitting breeches

I wear Pikeurs and Eurostars for competing, love them! Harry Hall Ascots are quite nice, I use them for everyday use but they would be smart enough for competing in. Hard to find though as they aren't made any more, 4Dobbin and Equestrian Clearance might have them. They've got a sticky bum and are reasonably thick

Tescos do seem free soft shorts that are very similar to the sporty secret ones but far cheaper (2pairs for £4 I think) - they are fab!

I'll echo that, that's what I have and they're really comfy, and not too hideous.

I do exactly the same, but definitely worth paying for quality. I have some enormous playtex maxi briefs for competing

Yes splashing out is definately the key!

I wear white Pikeur and also have a pair of white Horka, both have the shaped seat and no-one ever see's my big pants!

Save £10 a week - you'll soon get there!

get decent quality jodphurs then you dont have that problem! Seriously, i never have any problems with my underwear showing through my white jods when im competing - and i wear granny pants to compete in as they are nice and comfy

i tried riding in M&S boxer/short thingies once - OMG the pain...
are these sporty secret things honestly really comfy? might try them

Dont you believe it!!!! I'm afraid I fell victim to a fashion faux par a few years back when I didn't even consider the fact that I had leopard print knickers on under my white jods!!! Well you can guess all the comments I got, since then I've spent all my compeition days in White Bridget Jones style!!! Had a lesson last week and made the mistake of wearing a thong, wasted half the lesson by either being in serious pain or adjusting said garment!!!

Get a good pair of Bridget Jones style pants!

A couple of weeks back I went commando at a competition after I think reading another post re: similar subject and Weezy's similar response. i turned up at comp to find pants I put on at some unhealthy hour in the morning looked awful under my jods, so stripped off! Best feeling in the world-so liberating! Just hoped no-one would notice or that I would land spreadeagled over a fence with all on show to the world....haven't done it again since, but if it actually does get hot sometime soon.....

Tee hee ...everyone's secrets here....as I wear boring pants all the time anyway I rarely have a problem (and I don't currently have a pair of white jods). Good excuse to treat yourself to some nice jods....I shall look at Burghley (and wonder what all those riders are wearing underneath!)

I have the answer to this one. Buy some breeches that are a bit thicker material - but go to Tesco, and buy some of their hipster seamless knickers. They give no VPL and are the most comfiest knickers you can wear - they do them in all different colours, but the white ones are perfect for under white breeches, or the white linen trousers that seem to be in fashion.

£4 for two pairs - excellent value too.

Oh weezy that's just wrong on so many levels!!

Perhaps its because I tend to wash exercise jods once a week, (or when they really stink of horse). So that is sooo not an option!!

But think of the chafeing and what happens when you are dragged away in the ambulance

Now is it because you've blown all your cash on a wow and can no longer afford knickers????
grin.gif

I have gone commando for years and have never chaffed! In fact the only time I have ever had down there probs was one unforgettable day that I went out riding for 6 hours in a pair of lacy knicks, pure agony
frown.gif

BTW I have some of those Tesco seamless hipster short things and can deffo recomend them, thats what I wear competing now. Even the pale blue and white stripe ones do not show through

To the poster who was worried about having their jods cut off in event of an accident, yes, unfortunately this happened to me & I was wearing the most ancient hideous pair of pants ever, the ones you keep thinking "hmm must throw these away" Still at least I had some on, & definately could NEVER ride in a thong. A livery at my yard wears one half way up her back, it just looks gorgeous when she is bending down to muck out, OMG, looks b****y painful!

Am i the only one that wears a thong??!

I hate it when you see the top of a thong over peoples trousers, but most of my jods are high waisted so this never happens. I have a flesh coloured one which is seamless for under my competition jods.

I guess its beacuse i wear nothing but thongs that i dont notice, never had any problems riding in them either. I cant stand full pants.....
