A friends 15 year old, white Landrover with a blue & red stripe down the side was stolen last night from East Yorkshire. The thieves drove it through a very thick and high Hawthorn and Leylandi hedge to get it out of their garden, so where obviously determined to steal a very old, hole filled 4x4 for a reason. The property is not easy to get into either. The family are horse owners so the car reeks of horse and contains horsey bits and bobs. Our worry is it may be planned to use it for horse related crimes. The police helicopter lost it as it neared Doncaster. The police were more worried about the thieves and their intentions rather then the old car so I thought it wise to warn people to be on the lookout for anyone acting oddly with such a car especially around yards and fields. It is fitted with a tow bar. My friend can't remember the reg number, doh!. She has said that at sometime it has been resprayed but a ghosting of previous decoration can show through saying something "balloons".

Edited to add it is one of the larger Landrovers, a 7 seater.

Try also posting this on the many Land Rover forums there are, as they can be very helpful. Also try to find out which model it is and surely your friend must have documentation somewhere with the Reg. no....

Her husband knows the reg and dealt with that side of stuff with the police last night. She just doesn't know it herself.
I just wanted people to be extra vigilant if they spot a large white, Landrover hanging around horsey areas as the thieves may be thinking of targeting something equine using it. The police response to such an old car was quite extreme, several police cars and the Humberside helicopter persued it to Doncaster before losing it, not sure how they managed that.
I will suggest her husband posts on the Landrover forums, thanks.

How can a Police helicopter lose it......it can't speed away!!. I thought once the helicopter was onto something it was a done deal!!.
Sorry to hear they stole it, mine was stolen in September and recovered 2 weeks later. There are an awful lot being stolen, especially up North. Post it on Landyzone forum and you will get extra Landy loving eyes looking out for it.
They probably wanted it to strip for parts or drive round the fields for fun after disguising it with a new paint job.
