My welsh D has 3 stockings and 1 small white sock which are a nightmare to keep white. I don't have a stable just a field and no water connection so water has to be brought in containers. Planning on bathing him the eve before (livery yard up the road has a horse shower which i can use - a luxury!!) cant use in the morning as yard is really busy so going in the eve later on. When he comes back in the eve after his shower, i will pop on a washed fly sheet which should help keep him clean, he's black so not too bad. His field is mud free and grassy so hopefully he will stay clean (and it won't rain!!!! regarding legs i normally chalk well when damp and will leave till the morning. Will leave an hour before we have to go and retouch his legs or wash again (will bring water) then pop more chalk on - do you think he will be okay with normal fleece bandages on his legs to keep them clean in the trailer? He's used to wearing bandages anyway. He always craps down his hocks and white legs in the trailer grrrr his tail will be wrapped in 2 tail bandages before he travels too to keep it **** free :D
Also another question - his mane is wild and i have been plaiting it over to the correct side for weeks now, however some of it sneaks over. After i have washed it i will be plaiting it over to keep it in place, thing is it goes really wavy the next day - will it be better if its straight or wont it matter if its wavy??
Thanks!! i would love to hear your tips too, especially those in a similar position!

A good prewash the night before and then a quick wash in the morning before is how I do mine (and mine is predominantly white coloured that also lived out) living out, I always think is much easier to maintain bright whites because there's non of those god awful stable stains, just have baby wipes and a bit of chalk on standby once you reach the show ground just in case

I have a grey and in winter when it's muddy I use my detangler/polisher from Show Ready on his legs- as soon as the mud is dry it brushes straight off without a trace! They also do a dry wash system called hydrate 24 which might be good for you if you don't have access to water?

Sheep face White is your friend! It's the same stuff as makes Mayo White. Make into a paste and paint on the night before. Cut the toes out of some long men's socks and put over the top (the heel at the fetlock). Next morning remove the socks and brush out the now dry powder - legs should be sparkly! Doing this I managed a show straight from field - he was in the field one hour before his class started ;)
