White/light breeches. Why...

Are they all see through?! If not, how do the see-through ones sell?! Are people just buying them and not minding if their pants show? Or wearing very small/no pants?! (I am a regular, vouched for forum member btw, not some creep doing one of those 'men's underwear for riding' type posts 😏)

For context...I've gone on a Vinted mission (a new addiction is forming) to get some second-hand breeches for a couple of in-house dressage competitions this week and in a couple of weeks' time. It's not essential they're light coloured as the dress code is just 'smart' rather than proper competition wear. Initially I wasn't going to bother and just wear either navy riding tights/leggings or olive green breeches I already have, but then I thought if I could pick something up for not too much money that might be nice to look a bit more dressed for the occasion/'the part'.

The mission has been a mixed success, one pair didn't fit at all and the others fit fairly well but are quite see through! I've run out of time to sort something for this weeks comp so will make do with what I have. Any recommendations for brands though would be appreciated and maybe I can get something in a sale before the next comp :)

An alternative solution could be you could buy skin coloured underwear or even wear a pair of thin, white/cream leggings underneath (lycra types work best). Compression leggings work well under breeches. I started wearing them as extra support when I pulled a hamstring a while back and find them really comfortable and supportive, if a little warm in summer. Mind you, this is with navy breeches, you'd have to do a trial run with white/cream

I have had a variety of brands and haven't found that any were see-through, so maybe you just haven't found the right ones? My oldest ones are 25yr old Caldene ones and the newest are 2yr old Pikeur ones, with a couple of pairs that are in-between in age and price, and they've all been fine whatever colour pants I wear.

I have found with non-riding clothes that they can appear ok in changing room lights but when you wear the item in daylight you realise it isn't as opaque as you thought, so if you try some on it might be worth walking over to the shop window/door to have a look.

If you wear nude/flesh-coloured pants then the breeches won't appear see-through though (unless they are VERY transparent!); I used to have a pair of white denim 3/4 length trousers that would show black/patterned pants, but they looked fine (and not at all see-through) with nude ones underneath. I am not someone who ever wants my underwear to be on show but I felt (and looked) covered-up and comfortable in the trousers with nude pants. M&S used to sell (probably still do but I haven't been in for a while) excellent nude pants which showed no lines under tight clothing.

Sorry, not much of a helpful post, I'm not sure what the secret to finding the right breeches is though!

Likewise! White is not a colour I go for. It shows all the stains when I accidentally sit on the wrong surface - which I would do more than usual if I ever wore white! 🥴

I dragged my ancient pair out of the drawer earlier this year and was a bit horrified at how see through they were!

Flexars are double thickness and don't show your knickers 😄

I’ve been looking at these as I just can’t keep my whites clean! Apparently they are competition legal and the coloured part can also be grey or navy. Not the cheapest but a good idea.
I bought these. The ones with the black seat. And yes they are BD legal. They are thick and def not see through. I am actually selling mine tho as I just can’t keep the white bits clean!

If it's a low key competition what about grey I have loads of grey breeches and riding tights none are see through, they are my favourite colour to ride in and I think they would look nice with a navy jacket and at least you could wear them for everyday then.

I do have a really thick thermal pair of noble outfitters breaches which are beige and definitely not see through but probably too warm for summer.

I recently went white jod shopping and was also horrified how many were see through!! Expensive brands too, not just cheap brands. I went for Ariats in the end, more than I wanted to spend but at least they won’t show what knickers i opted for that morning!

Haven't the rules changed this year so that black or navy breeches are acceptable?

I'm sure I read it in H&H
It's not really running under any rules as it's an in-house thing so they just said dress smartly. I wanted to go light breeches to look a bit more 'competition-y' but rethinking that now!

I like the idea of grey, and the white/grey is such a good idea.

ETA - there probably are rules just not for rider clothing other than 'smart'

I put my new white ones on in the trailer. I put my trainers on again and immediately had a big black mark! I think they look lovely, on those people that can stay clean 😂

I always buy beige- white are just too impractical/unflattering!
I've not found beige to be too see-through of any brand I've had, the most recent were Derby house- so probably not available now unfortunately :(

Light grey I find much nicer these days, so much more practical a colour too. Ive got the Horze ones and they're so comfy. I never buy white anymore (dont have the figure for them, or any jods to be fair but white especially bad!).

How on earth can anyone actually get on a horse with clean white jods 😎🤔 I'd have to be picked up and put on as I always managed to brush against something to get dirty even with beige ones 😁
Sorry OP, no help at all....

Not to mention the green froth that has to be wiped all over you from ponies mouth when she’s showing you how cute she is. A darker beige is all I can almost get away with but mostly I’m just not that worried if they are a bit dirty 😂

I'm a muck magnet and generally avoid light colours altogether, particularly white and cream! I think the only white trousers I've ever possessed are the bottom half of my judo gi! 😁
