White line disease treatment?

How does everyone treat white line disease? Robin has it in all 4 feet. Farrier has cut away all the yuk and we have left shoes off. Said to use alamycin spray. Should I try cleantrax or does Milton work as well? Anything else I can be doing? He is on a hoof suppliment, formula 4 feet but he dosnt like the taste so will try something else
 
Cleantrax does work. Milton is just very dilute bleach, sheep rot spray won't work on WLD, may work on other bacterial stuff like thrush.
 
I found Cleantrax worked where nothing else did, along with removing the shoes.

When shod back up it did start again, but we are now trialling the copper covered nails, and there is no new infection around them, so it seems to be a successful start.
 
OK will rule out Milton. Alamycin is what vet and farrier recommend. Farrier did say we would use copper nails when shoes go back on so good to hear. Looks like Ill have to bite the bullet and go for cleantrax, I think I will practise with the boots first though.
 
Our vet and farrier both recommended Terramycin Spray for WLD. Not sure if its the same as Alamycin spray?! But it worked for our horse. If you can keep the hoof clean and stopping mud and dirt tracking up into the nail holes it will help alot.
 
Our barefoot pony has pockets of it growing out in all 4 feet although 1 has greatly improved since we started on the following regime on the advice of our trimmer:

Once a week pick out all the holes with a dentist style pick to get rid of dirt and stones
Brush with a stiff brush
Use an old washing up liquid bottle to squirt disinfectant of choice into the holes (we use diluted Milton)
Pack with Red Horse Hoof Stuff
Repeat process every 5-7 days

We also feed Progressive Earth Pro Hoof daily with a handful of chaff :-)
 
The thing is true White Line Disease can be very nasty and persistant indeed, if not effectively treated it can destroy a horse's feet and even in extreme cases lead to it being euthanised. There are other fungal infections that may respond to simple disinfectants; if it truly is WLD it needs zapping once and for all.

I currently work in the pharma industry. Cleantrax is just a hypochlorous acid solution.
Nothing new or special there and a good soaking in Dettol will do exactly the same, or a good spray with an athletes foot spray.
 
Good to know, but I did all that and it was the Cleantrax that sorted it finally. Perhaps it's just the duration of treatment that does the trick?

It is the same as fungal nail in people. So it could simply be treatment length however Often it is repeated treatment over time that finaly kills it. So it could be that if you tried lots before it then that it was the final nail in the coffin as they say, it could also be that the price of it drives compliance with the treatment regieme.
I soak affected hooves in neat dettol for 30 mins every day for a week and have yet to have that fail.

Same for me, we had sustained treatment with all sorts, to limited effect, then Cleantrax and it went in one go, left big holes behind where it had been.

It could be this, as when scrubbing with Milton, Dettol etc etc I wuld spend 10 minutes scrubbing, whereas with Cleantrax it was 45 minutes in soak per foot (2 bottles).
 
My Rosie had WLD and we used zinc sulphate solution as a spray. It can be purchased from ebay as a powder you mix with water. It is the active ingredient in Red Horse products amongst other products for hoof disease in horses and sheep. It is used daily after picking out hooves and kills off infection whilst waiting for the holes in the hooves to grow out.
 
I've just bought some copper sulphate crystals to use on my horse WLD. I've heard good reports about it for both WLD and thrush. can be used both diluted as a soak and powdered to put into holes where the WLD is.
