Do these white marks on the hoof wall mean anything? Or is it just pigment changes?
Please excuse the state of the hoof, awaiting shoe being refitted.
He’s on Pro Earth hoof balancer so should have his dietary needs met.

Your farrier would be the best person, seems unusual for it to suddenly occur, when he comes to pop that shoe back on I'd ask him.
It looks like lack of pigmentation, but I don't understand why/now/when it started.
Definitely ask, am curious now!

Pro earth usually have decent copper levels - vital for pigment. I wonder if this winter your horse has had minor bugs/viruses to deal with as the immune system uses copper too. If its being shunted by the body for immune system use, then pigment maintenance could well be altered.

Another possibility is that those vertical lines are stress impact lines, from longer hoof wall impact on firm surface, and the horn tubules have disconnected where you see white lines? If theres no tight laminae connection, there’d be no blood supply and no pigment. The lines are mainly at the areas prone to uneven long growth and more at risk of excess flaring/impact stress on firm surfaces - front wall and quarter.

We usually see more commonly black hoof soles that have white depigmentation blotches from thin soles pressure of coffin bone, everything pressed tight causing blood circulation issues of the sole corium, leaving white marks.
