Hi just looking for some thoughts and opinions. I have a 9 year old Hunter who are the end of the season had a bit of snotty nose in the morning and after exercise. No coughing and in great form in general, completely himself. Spoke to vet and vet advised it should settle once he's out more and weather improves etc. So I left him off once season ended and it seemed to clear up. I started riding again from paddock about 6/7 weeks later ( few days a week to keep his belly at bay) great form but after the ride he gets a run of white discharge when he puts his head down to eat. Lasts for a few seconds, I wipe it away and it's gone. Only appears after a ride. I have had the vet during this time and vet has seen the discharge and he has been scoped twice and all is clear and normal. A puzzling situation. Would appreciate any thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks.

I find that horses often get this sort of discharge when travelling, as they can't lower their head to drain passages. I guess when ridden he is not draining as well as when grazing.

Yeh it's a strange one as he's been scoped clean and is completely himself (has been all along) just after exercise. White run flows out once he lowers his head to eat his feed and once wiped away, that's it!

He does blow down his nose while being ridden but not in any funny way just blows down as lots of horses would but doesn't blow out anything if you get me. Just looks like any other horse while being ridden.

I've had several horses that were like this, just a trickle of white discharge after exercise. TBh I wouldn't worry unless the horse was coughing or the discharge became yellow/green or the horse seemed unwell.

Ok well glad to hear this isn't too unusual! Hopefully! Would u have seen it after every ride or just now and again? Happens every ride now since this issue began. It's about a table spoon amount and once it runs out and is wiped away that's it. Thanks

No just from time to time but it is very dry and dusty at the moment and I think lots of horses are suffering a bit. my present horse has been coughing quite a bit and has had more discharge than usual but when I spoke to the vet earlier this week he says lots of horses are having the same and not to worry.

Yeh I suppose weather plays a big part. As long as they are well is the main thing. Thanks for your help 😊

My horse has always got a bit of white discharge after exercise I'm pretty sure the vet said it was lung fluid but nothing to worry about. He is also a hunter that does get a few mysterious respiratory problems so I do keep an eye on him.
