Hi everyone,
I know there have been posts on here about getting/keeping tails and feathers white but I have recently bought a mare with a very badly pee/poo stained tail and just cant get it out!
Ive tried whitening shampoo, hibiscrub, miraclegroom, bicarb and soda crystals and its still bad!
Does anyone have any ideas at all as to how to get rid of the stains? aaaarrrr!
Thankyou in advance

Tescos cheapest apple scented shampoo isnt half bad

and costs pennies compared to other brands, also do you use a brush or just rub it in and wash out? I think a brush (especially those sponge brushes) are good to really scrub them clean, and leaving it for 10 misn before you wash out helps

I used a vanish stick (looks like the soft roll on anti-perspirant) on my mares tail and left it too soak for 5 or 10 mins. I just made sure non of it went on her skin. I also used fairy liquid, wash and show shampoo, purple shampoo and extra strength shampoo

It was white for about a day

Use warm water - wash with a 'normal' shampoo first then soak the tail in Steradent tablets in water and then wash with a 'white' shampoo - leave in for 5 - 10 mins and then rinse - all with warm water. The warm water seems to make the stains shift better.

O and Hovis_and_Sids mum used Fairy Liquid on Hovis's feathers the other day to get Likit out - with great success so maybe worth a try.

what colour is your horse? is the tail white or has it got grey and ginger growing through? i have a grey with a peeed looking tail but it is ginger strands running through. miracle groom green spot remover does brighten it up and i keep cutting it. it will be grey/white in six months as the ginger is growing out at 7 years. if tail is very thick and heavy and getting ped onyou could plaitit up. but wash every 2 to 3 days (quicky) to keep at best.

Daz tablet in boiling water! Obviously only dip the end in the water and have a cold bucket to dip it in straight after. You can see the tail going white!!

I do exactly the same with my grey and the white bits on my coloured and it works a treat

i always use a shampoo called "so silver"- you can get in from most hairdressers, its quite price but you don't need much and it works a treat! just wash off with normal shampoo first and then a good scrub with so silver....makes it really shine...
