hi everyone, whenever i go to shows all the other grey ponies have lovely white tails mine has a horrid yellowish end. , how ever much i wash it. anyone know how they do it? many many thanks
Go to tailgator.co.uk and get a tailbag - the fold up option is best. Keep tail bagged all the winter - including when ridden.
I have a gypsy cob so in the summer, he has two thirds bagged and top third left out to swish flies.
Tresume deep cleansing shampoo mixed with some vanish liquid - about 50 - 50.
Equine blue - equineblue.com. Make up a strong solution in very hot water and put the end of the tail into this and keep in for up to 10 minutes - do not put dock in. Then wash. You can add more blue to the conditioner and final rinse water.
Do not use bleach. Wash tail regularly - unless you keep it bagged and keep trimming yellow ends off - eventually a white tail will grow out.
Buy a horse with a black tail - I am so glad I did, though you can't beat a snow white white but it can be a lot of work.
I have tried all sorts of things, but last time I did a tail wash, I had run out of all the usual stuff, so I used a dribble of horse shampoo, a squirt of washing up liquid and a sprinkling of vanish - he has never had such a clean sparkiling white tail, it was amazing!

I didn't know that Steradent was a good stain remover.....
Horse whitening shampoo eg. champion tails or supreme products then glo white net curtain whitener.
It transform a tail that usually looks like this...
to this....
I also use tailgater tail bags but only after washing for the show. If i left it on all the time my other mini would pull it off for definate and probably along with Inkys tail!!!
I swear by soap flakes! A handful in really hot water, wet the horses tail and then dunk the tail in to about half way. You really have to rinse to get the soap out but it gives fantastic results!!
Stinkbomb, your mini is fantastic! Id love a little filly to show! x
my sister in law uses grannys soap powder available from tescos her grey orlov trotter loves to poo all over her tail and it comes out perfect everytime!!! Good luck!!!!!
