I have a white bateson trailer which I love but I hate the green algae stuff that builds up on the roof.

I use Aldi caravan cleaner to clean it and this removes the green but how can I stop it building up? It seems to return so quickly and makes the trailer look so scruffy.

Washing it more often isn't easy as I don't have space (or a hosepipe) at home. I can't use a hose where it is stored so it gets done with containers of warm soapy water in a bucket from a ladder which is fairly time consuming.

So is there anything I can treat it with to stop this green stuff from sticking?

Haha, I used to have a cream lorry that was always turning green.

When I got another lorry I had them make it green. Could you paint it?

The tip I got was to wash the trailer on a rainy day. Apparently most of us choose nice sunny days for the job, but if you wash it in the rain the algae is already softened so comes off much easier.

Otherwise, my wishlist for my next transport is to not be white!

Can you put a cover on it?

Hmmmm, possibly, if I could find something suitable and also secure it adequately. It is pretty windy up there.

I hadn't thought of that, I don't know, I have seen people paint the old rice trailers but never a bateson. I rather like it white but a dark colour might be more practical.

Good tip thanks

I use Algon on my polytunnel, you just dilute it, spray on with a garden type sprayer and leave. All the green disappears over a few days and it prevents it coming back for about 6 months. It is organic and safe for animals too and is not just for polytunnels. Might work for a trailer roof.

That looks worth a try. I could potentially keep some made up and give it a quick spray after use ?

Yikes that's a bit pricey!!!
