My Appy mare has been coming in from the field with what look like singed whiskers. On closer inspection, the white can be scraped off with my nails. We have noticed it on another mare tonight but not on the gelding and they all share a paddock.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what it is or what is causing it??? It isn't bothering either of them but is making me curious.

No idea! But would love to know!! I went to get my girl in this afternoon and the grass was covered in what looked like cobwebs?? I thought that's weird!! Then I got to the horse and all her whiskers were singed and white!! Poor girlie!!

We have noticed this the past week at our yard too but don't think anything has been put on the adjoining fields- will ask the farmer when I see him this week.

Lime - interesting- is this likely to cause a problem for those horses affected?

How weird, the mare who shares the paddock with my boy has come in the last 2 days with white whiskers but my boy hasn’t. We thought it was cobwebs until we tried to wipe them off and it didn’t budge. The fields surrounding us have definitely not been touched in the last few weeks. Would love to know what it is :)

Probably cobwebs, they're pretty sticky!

I love seeing the fields at this time of year all sparkling with cobwebs.

Had this too yesterday. Thought it was paint on first inspection. Then noticed the same on my wellies where I had been walking thru the field. Little white cobwebs :)

Funny that cobwebs should be suggested....i had wondered if they were responsible after seeing the amount of them all over the fields.

I dont think it's lime tbh, as our fields havent had anything on them/done to them since early spring.

Funny though how the mares have them but not the boy....different grazing heights perhaps??
