hi,
need some advise as i was poo picking this morning i noticed little white worms in old poo ( i'd say it was about 3-4 days old) luckily one of my horses pooed while i was there so i quickly scooped it up and rummaged through it but found nothing.
my other horse did not poo while i was there but they have both recently been wormed with an all singing all dancing wormer-and this was the second one they have both had in approx 4 months as they have swapped fields.
i only found these worms in about four piles of old poo while the newer poo remained worm free should i reworm again?
thankyou

No, what you saw was most likely maggots from eggs laid by passing insects. If you are really concerned send a sample off for worm-counting before worming again. Wormers are strong chemicals, it isn't good for horses to be over-exposed to them and the worms become resistant if the chemicals are used too often.

How big were the worms?? Were they like really big bean sprouts/big white earth worms?? How old is the horse??

Young horses can be affected by Ascarids and they can be seen in poo, if the fresh stuff doesnt have any i'd say that the wormer has done its job (this happended to my baby too when i first had her) however, when i saw them i panicked and wormed again about a month later under vets advice with a totally different wormer to be sure i had gotten them all.

Dont worry, mine is fine!

Do you have pics or anything you can show vet to be sure.

Or just google images of different worms that affect horses and see if you can see them. It could just have been nothing :) xxxx

i had an incline that they might be maggots but i have seen maggots and these were definatly smooth looking worms just under a centimetre long and they were under the old poo. my Joe is 6 and Lady is 13.
thankyou for all your support. i have only just registered and i can see myself being on here alot :D
