I am taking my rising 7 Connemara pony to occasional jump sessions. No higher than 50cm so far. I am not sure when we will aim for higher. I have not used any boots on her at any point. Am I careless? I am most worried about overheating the tendons but maybe protecting the legs has its place? Should I use boots and which ones allow for enough airflow

The material used for boots these days is so light and breathable that you'd do well to overheat the tendons wearing them.

I don't worry so much for the barefooters but I always boot up the shod ones.

I don't use boots when my connemara is barefoot and jumping showjumps. He isa very neat jumper. If i am riding my shod ConnieXTB he wears tendon boots and overreach boots, shoes can do a lot of damage. When he is XC he wears boots all around.
Modern boots have excellent air flow and using them for a jumping session is unlikely tocause a problem.

Like you I've done small stuff and she's barefoot. I did up to 70cm and didn't boot show jumping. My native is careful and rarely has a pole.
I do for cross country though.

I will boot my youngster as his legs are finer and he's more accident prone.

Never bothered until one of them was shod, now she wears over reach boots 24/7 and front brushing boots, but she’s very green so being extra careful anyway.

Other then that, I put brushing boots on all round if we’re travelling, just because it’s easier to travel in them, ride, then travel back, than mess about with travel boots coming on and off

I don’t wear boots 90% of the time with Faran as he absolutely hates anything on his legs. He actually plaits and rubs his legs together front and back when you’re on him.

Its certainly a sight to see when he starts

I don't boot out hunting, mine are shod (natives). I've not done any sjing though- perhaps the tight turns might increase the risk of them clipping themselves? I wouldn't bother with an unshod horse unless they were particularly clumsy.

My 15hh cob is barefoot ,currently jumping 70 cm and not booted as I can't find boots the right size, I will boot her for x country though..

I don't. Both barefoot, straight moving and don't brush. Always jump within there capabilities. I had more issues from hind boots slipping on cobby legs.
